The Pieve di Sant'Ippolito is a small outbuilding in the heart of the Crete Senesi. You will find it on the outskirts of the village of Asciano, in a panoramic and sunny position. The property is composed of the manor house where the owners' family lives, an annexe and the very ancient Church of "Sant'Ippolito e Cassiano", whose origins date back to the 3rd-4th century AD. Inside the church you can admire a beautiful fresco painted by several renowned artists of the Umbrian school, such as Pinturicchio and Raphael, but erroneously attributed to the Sienese painter Giacomo Pacchiarotti a minor artist of the Sienese school. On 13 August, for the feast of Saints Ippolito and Cassiano, the church will be open to the public and a Holy Mass will be celebrated there. During the rest of the year, being part of private property, the owners allow it to be opened only on rare occasions, while guests of the house will be able to visit it freely.
You will reach the village of Asciano, with shops and services of all kinds, by a pleasant walk of just a few minutes.
All around the house you will find a large, fully fenced garden equipped with children's games, a table tennis table, barbecue and tables and chairs for your outdoor meals. The beautiful round swimming pool (dimensions 13 x 8 m, depth 1.20 - 2.10 m) with water geyser, infinity edge with waterfall and 3-seater whirlpool bath will be at your disposal during the whole year. Near the pool there are two gazebos furnished with relaxing armchairs, table, deckchairs and sun loungers for your days of rest in the company of your favourite book. Some outdoor spaces and the swimming pool are in common use with the owners.

The paved patio that extends directly from the kitchen is adorned with climbing jasmine and furnished with a dining table sheltered beneath a pergola, complemented by numerous relaxation areas with armchairs and small tables, making it an ideal setting for alfresco meals and leisurely afternoons. A large gazebo positioned between the house and the pool provides a shaded gathering space, while the first-floor veranda, equipped with a large table and a comfortable seating area, frames the sweeping countryside panorama in a truly unforgettable way. A stone barbecue adds a convivial touch to outdoor dining, and the surrounding lawn and paved areas, enhanced by a rich variety of typical Mediterranean plants, flow naturally into the open countryside, creating a sense of continuity with the landscape that stretches to the horizon. The private non-heated swimming pool occupies a prime panoramic position at the centre of a large lawn area, approximately 70 metres from the house and reached via a gentle descent across the grass. Rectangular in shape with a travertine stone border, it measures 12.5 x 4 metres with a depth of 1.50 metres and is equipped with hydro-massage vents. Lined in grey PVC, the pool is accessible via submerged steps on one of its short sides and is purified using a glass wool system with ultra-modern UV lamps for sterilisation combined with a moderate use of chlorine. The surrounding sunbathing area is furnished with 2 gazebos, sunbeds, small tables, armchairs, and a solar shower. The pool is available from the last Saturday of April to the first Saturday of October. Please be aware that photographs of the property were taken in spring, and therefore the blossoming of flowers and the colour of the garden grass may differ from what you find upon arrival.

Accessible down 3 steps from the living room are a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with joinable beds, both sharing a bathroom with shower. A games room, accessible from outside, is equipped with table tennis, a football table, hockey, a card table, and a professional dart board. Adjacent to the main entrance, under the portico, you will find the laundry room and the staircase leading to the upper floor. One hectare of garden, mainly lawn, surrounds the house and the various set up areas that adorn the property, embellished by olive trees, fragrant creepers and luxuriant bushes of Mediterranean herbs. Swimming Pool:
The lovely fenced-in pool area is reached from the house along a short level path of about 15 m. The large travertine-paved sunbathing area is equipped with sunbeds, deckchairs and tables, at the centre of which lies the free form pool, measuring 110 sq m with a varying depth of 70 to 150 cm. The pool is lined in PVC and has Roman steps and chlorine purification. La Casa dell'Artista is a delightful, characteristic Tuscan farmhouse located at the edge of the borgo of Asciano, in the magnificent, unmistakable scenery designed by the hills of the Crete Senesi, a few kilometres south of Siena. It was an old farmhouse that the current owners have completely renovated. The result is a cosy country retreat and its heart is the beautiful built-in kitchen with pizza oven and barbecue, connected to a bright veranda that opens onto a lush park, a real botanical garden studded with multiple blooms and covered with a huge expanse of lawn. Although located in the historic centre of the lively borgo (reachable through a pedestrian gate at the back of the house), with its cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, bus stop and train station, the back of the property looks out over the open countryside bordered by wooded landscapes and is the ideal location for you to enjoy your privacy and tranquility without having to forgo the amenities found in the immediate vicinity. Unmissable tourist attractions of Tuscany such as Siena, Cortona, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Chianti and the Val D'Orcia as well as spa resorts like Rapolano Terme and Bagno Vignoni are all easily and quickly reachable.
Interior:
The villa has two floors connected by an internal staircase. The entrance on the ground floor leads into the living room; from here, continuing to the right you come to a bathroom with shower, the kitchen with pizza oven and barbecue and, finally, the veranda with dining table, connected to the outside by French windows. In a back room with access from the kitchen is the laundry. The upper floor comprises the sleeping area with three double bedrooms (one with a queen-size bed) and a bathroom with whirlpool tub. The bathroom is shared by two rooms and has two access doors.

The house is surrounded by a large green park set in the tranquillity of the countryside (despite being located at the edge of the borgo), which extends for about three hectares between a vast expanse of manicured lawn and rich, dense Mediterranean vegetation of shrubs, flower beds, roses and tall trees. Completing the garden is an orchard and an assorted vegetable garden with seasonal vegetables. The structure was born from the recovery of old farm outbuildings close to the main house where the owners live, who will be, albeit in a discreet manner, a point of reference for all your needs.
The owners, thanks to careful renovation using traditional materials such as wood, terracotta and stone and comfortable furnishings, have ensured that the villa is perfect for spending a comfortable and restful holiday.
Villa Le Balze overlooks on one side a wooden porch, equipped with table and chairs and perfect for your dinners and evenings in company, and the lush garden where you will have a barbecue and a table tennis. On the other side, the house overlooks the swimming pool area (size 6x12 m, depth 1.40 m - open from 10 May to 15 September), which is completely fenced off and for the exclusive use of guests.
At Agriturismo Le Balze you can taste and purchase excellent wine and extra-virgin olive oil, vegetables, fruit, and all the products of the farm. Description
In 1996 we moved to the Crete Senesi and we fell in love with this farmhouse Etruscan origins, medieval mill, peace and tranquillity. That’s why we decided to share it with our guests and their four-legged friends.
The farm keeps the whole family busy: Alessandro (biologist, nature guide and Sommelier), Elisa who looks after the administration, Mauro and Paola, retired but full time busy on the farm. And we hope that in the future even Emma and Guido will give us a helping hand.
We produce vegetables and fruit, olive oil and truffles from organic agriculture.
For our guests we organize a rich programme of initiatives discovering the colours and flavours of the Crete, wine tasting in our cosy winery and excursions by bike guided by Alessandro who is fond of cycling.

Serre di Rapolano at 2 km, Rapolano Terme with all kind of shops at 5 km, Siena at 25 km.
Only 4 km from our farm there are the thermal baths of Rapolano which grant special discounts to our guests.

You will discover that the 'Balze' are a landscape of rare beauty, centuries-old examples of erosion that over the years have formed towers and rocky blades that rise majestically in the valley bottom, and that will catapult you into a suggestive, almost magical world.
The Agriturismo Le Balze is located in the heart of the Alto Valdarno, at the foot of Pratomagno, and 4 km from the village of Castelfranco di Sopra. The nearest shops and supermarkets can be found in Montevarchi or San Giovanni Valdarno, about 10 km away. Here, in the small, pretty towns, you can spend an evening out for dinner or organise an aperitif with friends.
The property is divided into three apartments resulting from the restoration of old farm outbuildings close to the main house where the owners live. Traditional materials such as wood, terracotta and stone were used in the renovation carried out to maintain the building's rural and peasant origins. All the apartments overlook a wooden porch on one side, where you will have your own private space equipped with table and chairs to spend the cool summer evenings at dinner or with your family or friends.
In the large, green garden you will have a practical barbecue and a table tennis. The swimming pool in common use is located at the back of the building (size 6x12 m, depth 1.40 m - open from 10 May to 15 September) and is completely fenced. Laundry and ironing facilities in a common room.
At Agriturismo Le Balze you can taste and buy excellent wine and extra-virgin olive oil, vegetables, fruit, and all the farm's products. But certainly one of its highlights is the small restaurant (maximum 25 seats - reservation required) run by the owners and located on the ground floor of their home, open both to the public and to guests of the agriturismo, where you absolutely must, at least for one evening, taste the delicious typical dishes, which are cooked using tasty local products.
