These are called "balze," and have provided inspiration to many artists throughout the years, including Leonardo da Vinci who would often come to this part of the Tuscan countryside to sketch and paint. The village itself seems forgotten by time, and you will feel the leisurely pace as you stroll through its winding pathways and gentle scenery. There are many small stone houses that are located in and around Loro Ciuffenna, with old bridges left over from the Middle Ages.

Loro Ciuffenna is located in the Arno Valley in Tuscany, Italy. When you visit Loro Ciuffenna you'll feel like you stepped back in time with it's narrow streets and alleys which date back to the Etruscan era. In the center of town there is an old Roman bridge that spans the raging currents below. An old mill, which recently closed, was powered by a water wheel for over 100 years and is still visible from the bridge today. Wandering through the streets is an amazing experience, if you're in the area be sure to stop and visit.

Loro Ciuffenna is located about halfway between Florence and Arezzo making it a great location for renting a villa. For such a small village there are a surprising number of good restaurants in town, as well as, nearby in Terranuova Bracciolini. If you're looking for a good Florentine steak be sure to visit Restaurante Il Cipresso in Loro. If you're in the mood for ice cream one of the best gelato shops in the area is located just before the bridge in the center of town.

Anatra In Porchetta

This recipe is a combination of the popular Porchetta with duck instead of the normal pork roast. Porchetta is a popular staple at many festivals and holidays in Italy, served from street vendors and often in a Panini. The Anatra in Porchetta offers a slightly different spin on the traditional dish that you are sure to find enjoyable.

Ingredients:

One whole, cleaned duck

Fennel seeds

Bunch of fresh fennel

4 Garlic Cloves

2 Peperoncini (chili peppers)

Fresh Sage

Fresh Rosemary

Salt and Pepper

Olive Oil

Glass of Red Wine

Between the tourist cities of Arezzo and Florence is the unusual erosive rock formation called ‘Le Balze of Valdarno’ meaning the Cliffs of Valdarno. The Balze are a series of large jutted rocks that rise high about the surrounding landscape in quite a striking fashion.

Over the past few days we have taken a closer look at the Fattoria Della Nave in our Villa Spotlight. We have discussed the Parco Della Nave, the magnificent forest preserve on the property for the use of the guests.

Yesterday we saw the interiors of two of the buildings on the property, a total of five separate units of this large and luxurious multi-unit villa. Today we will be looking into the Valcellino part of the property, with its own five units: Luigi, Irene, Francesca, Maria Chiara, and the Anna Maria apartments.

We had a wonderful vacation staying at CasaForte. The property was stunning and the views breathtaking. The apartments are furnished very tastefully and Lucia, the owner, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The property is located 10 minutes outside Lori Ciuffenna which is a charming little Tuscan town. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

We were blown away by Casaforte, and enjoyed every minute of our time there. We can't quite believe we had the place to ourselves. This place is stunning, and Lucia is an excellent host; she provided so much upon our arrival, including a beautiful bottle of Vapolicella. We have no hesitation recommending Casaforte as a place to stay; you won't regret it! We definitely want to go back some time in the near future.

The villa was absolutely amazing!!! We arrived and happened to have the whole place to ourselves. We spent two weeks in Italy at a variety of different locations and this was the only place where the pictures on the booking site actually matched the property! What you see is what you get and much more. The outfitting of the units is spectacular with great comfy decor and modern upgrades. The grounds are gorgeous and well kept. You'll want to axe any day plans you've prearranged just to sit poolside and relax with the amazing view. Ms. Lucia is in charge (along with her adorable puppy) and takes very good care of you from beginning to end. The closest supermaket is about 10-15 minutes away in town so you can stock up on snacks, wine, whatever. The town Loro Ciuffenna is super cute and also about 10 minutes away. It's easy to walk around and of course there are a few restaurants you can have lunch and/or dinner at. The next major town for great food is Montevarchi about 20-30 minutes away.
We rented a car as this is the easiest way to get around. Driving isn't difficult at all as long as you have a navigation system and the villa is fairly close to the main highway (A1). My husband and I fully plan on staying here again...hopefully in the near future!
