A breathtaking view, in the pure and untouched nature. Villa il Basso is composed of a main farmhouse and an annexe, it is situated on the top of a high hill overlooking the Pratomagno mountains. It takes a little effort to get up here, the road of about 3 km is almost all dirt and steep in some places, but once you arrive you will be rewarded with true peace and tranquility and above all with a breathtaking view.
The village of Talla and the Casentino valley. In a few minutes, from the house you can reach Talla (5 km), hometown of the great medieval cantor Guido d'Arezzo and where we also find the Museum of Music to him dedicated. When you are not relaxing at home, the Casentino valley full of castles, ancient churches and abbeys will make you take a plunge into medieval history.
The panoramic garden and the swimming pool. The real bonus of this villa is certainly the outdoor area, with a large green space on several levels, equipped with barbecue, tables, chairs and umbrellas, to frame the beautiful swimming pool (size mt. 5x10 - depth mt. 1,40-2,00), where lying on a sun bed you will be enchanted by the view. The house is simply furnished but offers everything you need for a comfortable holiday.

Interior Description

GROUND FLOOR: sitting room with fireplace, kitchen-dining room and bathroom with shower. Access to a double bedroom up a wooden staircase. Down a wooden staircase there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom with shower. Small room through which access to other rooms. Due to the lay of the land the rooms are connected one to another by a few steps.
ANNEX: Small stone house composed of sitting-dining room with kitchenette, fireplace and two single beds, bathroom with shower.

EQUIPMENT: freezer, washing machine, oven, filter coffee maker, iron and ironing board, fly screens, satellite TV, barbecue.

Try it for yourself in ‘Ristorante Il Convivio dei corsi’ located in the town centre before moving onto the next stop of this interesting trail.

This charismatic town is home to the church of St. Lorenzo where two spectacular paintings by Andrea della Robbia called ‘Adoration of the Shepherds’ and ‘Deposition’ can be admired inside. Only two kilometres outside of this town is the monastery of San Maria del Sasso dating back to the 15th century where more of Andrea della Robbia’s work can be seen.

This stunning chapel is the perfect example of Renaissance architecture and decorative Florentine artwork as the frescos are painted all around the walls and the windows are stained in rich colours.

Two stars: Beautifull view and very nice swimming pool. Unpaved road to the property is very bad ( approx. 2,5 km) and hardly to drive with a normal car due to steep slope and bad surface condition.
Some essentials in the kitchen like a water cooker are missing ,or are in poor condition. We reported to the representative that we smelled some gas in one of the two kitchens. We solved by closing the gas valve.

Il Basso was the perfect place to call "home" on our vacation to Italy. After a hectic day of sight-seeing in the nearby towns, it provided a peaceful end to the day.
We loved the privacy of our own little "mountain top" retreat with the valley view below. You can see LaVerna from the villa. (Have Rosita point it out to you!) We highly recommend you make the drive to visit LaVerna. The monastery and park are absolutely beautiful and the view from there is spectacular.
Inside the villa, the bedrooms have enough seperation to allow for privacy. Each bedroom having it's own bathroom made it easy to share the villa with a group.
We visited in September, and did not swim in the pool. We did use the poolside patio for dining and it was terrific. Even though we weren't swimming, the pool was cleaned each day so it always looked inviting.
We will definately have Il Basso on our accomodations list for our next trip to Tuscany!
