For some people, being on holidays means doing very little of anything at all and just laying around and relaxing but for others staying as active as they are in their daily lives or as active as they wish they had time to be in their daily lives is key to a good vacation. If you fall into the latter category and you have been thinking of booking a vacation rental in Tuscany then you might be wondering about some of the best outdoor activities in Tuscany. There are lots of different options from water sports to zip-lining to orienteering and more but the activity that best utilises the great beauty of the Tuscan landscape has to be hiking. There are lots of excellent hiking routes all around Tuscany that take in the incredible and picturesque nature of the rolling hills, rows of cypresses, vineyards, impressive forests, towering peaks, lovely coastline, and beautiful medieval hilltop towns of the region. One particularly picturesque area to hike in Tuscany is the Pratomagno Mountain Range which is located between Casentino and the upper Valdarno so, if you like to hike and want to make Tuscany your next holiday destination then why not browse our vacation rentals in Casentino and holiday rentals in Valdarno and get ready to take on this charming mountain range?

Located in the east of the region, just before the Apennine Ridge, the Pratomagno Mountain Range is made up of slopes that are characterised by the presence of lots of little streams, furrows, hillocks, pastures, meadows, and forests and groves. In the spring and summer, it is alive with colour between the lush green of the grasses being grazed by cows, sheep, and horses, and the pops of bright shades of wildflowers that are dotted throughout. The ridge of Pratomagno is like a natural garden and from April right through to September a great variety of different kinds of colourful flowers grow in the area. Perhaps the loveliest time of year for flowers, however, is mid-May when the daffodils briefly take over in a rather beautiful way. As a result of these stunning wildflowers, walks along the grasslands during the full-moon, in particular, are truly incredible and something to definitely try out if you get the chance.

The wonderful forests and groves of Pratomagno, meanwhile, are home to oak, beech, chestnut, pine, and fir trees (some of which are up to a staggering 30m in height) and they provide a beautiful backdrop of rich golden tones in the autumn. Furthermore, they are home to handsome deer that can be spotted, if you are lucky and keep your eyes peeled! In winter, the snow-capped peaks and crisp weather during the colder months lend a starkly lovely nature to the surroundings. So, no matter when you decide to plan your vacation in Tuscany, a hike in the Pratomagno Mountain Range is sure to delight the senses as well as give you plenty of opportunity to stretch your legs and take in some very fresh air. No matter what time of year you visit, sunrise and sunset walks and hikes are always the most rewarding as the already stunning landscape of the slopes and the views from the peaks are made even more awe-inspiring by the changing light.
So, if you're an avid hiker and you have found a vacation rental in Casentino or a holiday rental in Valdarno and you are planning on exploring the landscapes of Tuscany, then be sure to set aside some time to plan a visit to the breathtaking, awe-inspiring, and truly beautiful Pratomagno Mountain Range during your stay!
