The estate is situated in the surrounding hills of San Gimignano, in an area where everything appears to aspire to excellence. Just outside from the centre of San Gimignano the resort boasts a fantastic view of the splendid towers that have made the little ancient town famous all over the world. The Borgo Tollena is immersed in the green countryside, but at the same time it is within easy reach of all the most important Tuscan cities of art like Florence, Siena, Volterra - and just a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast. The building in which the estate has its premises is an ancient historic residence of the nineteenth century, which has been completely renovated, maintaining intact the original architecture. The property extends over a total area of 70 hectares, comprising 16 hectares of vineyards, 6 hectares of olive groves, 27 hectares devoted to seed plots, with the remaining hectares cloaked in woodland. Here the present owners have organised the cellar in line with the most advanced vinification techniques, through a complete renovation of the premises and the equipment for the processing, storage and ageing of the wine. It is in these cellars that the wine comes to birth, is refined and acquires wisdom. Each year the estate produces 700 hl of wine and 15 hl of first-pressing extra-virgin olive oil, achieving a level of quality such as to satisfy even the most demanding palates. The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) A few days, we walked from the villa into San Gimignano, which we truly enjoyed. It was about a 30 minute walk and the views were gorgeous. We also recommend the dinner(s) at the property. The property extends over a total area of 70 hectares, comprising 16 hectares of vineyards, 6 hectares of olive groves, 27 hectares devoted to seed plots, with the remaining hectares cloaked in woodland. Here the present owners have organised the cellar in line with the most advanced vinification techniques, through a complete renovation of the premises and the equipment for the processing, storage and ageing of the wine. It is in these cellars that the wine comes to birth, is refined and acquires wisdom. The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We immediately fell in love with the La Stellata and the surroundings. The owner Barbara is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside! So very sweet and helpful in every way! The apartment was so very clean that it made us feel very comfortable. We had everything you would need in a kitchen and bathroom and we did prepare several meals on our apartment. The views from our apartment were breathtaking! The grounds of the Borgo Tollena were also very well tended and beautiful. The six of us were very pleased with the rental, the town of San Gimignano and Barbara the owner of the Borgo Tollena. Also, the wine was available to purchase and very good! The villa was immaculate and had an amazing view. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. It is centrally located and very close to San Gimignano (a beautiful little town with lots of character dinner options in the evenings and off course the best gelaterias). Apartment very nice, very clean and tastefully decorated. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only down side is that a couple of the apartments allow for quite big groups. We were unlucky enough to have a couple with six boys aged between 8 and 18. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We immediately fell in love with the La Stellata and the surroundings. The owner Barbara is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside! So very sweet and helpful in every way! The apartment was so very clean that it made us feel very comfortable. We had everything you would need in a kitchen and bathroom and we did prepare several meals on our apartment. The views from our apartment were breathtaking! The grounds of the Borgo Tollena were also very well tended and beautiful. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. The only downsides were that we had trouble connecting to wifi and the Sky TV wasn't available until the last evening, but the positives definitely outweighed these. It is centrally located and very close to San Gimignano (a beautiful little town with lots of character dinner options in the evenings and off course the best gelaterias). Apartment very nice, very clean and tastefully decorated. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only down side is that a couple of the apartments allow for quite big groups. We were unlucky enough to have a couple with six boys aged between 8 and 18. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We immediately fell in love with the La Stellata and the surroundings. The owner Barbara is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside! So very sweet and helpful in every way! The apartment was so very clean that it made us feel very comfortable. We had everything you would need in a kitchen and bathroom and we did prepare several meals on our apartment. The views from our apartment were breathtaking! The grounds of the Borgo Tollena were also very well tended and beautiful. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) Just outside from the centre of San Gimignano the resort boasts a fantastic view of the splendid towers that have made the little ancient town famous all over the world. The Borgo Tollena is immersed in the green countryside, but at the same time it is within easy reach of all the most important Tuscan cities of art like Florence, Siena, Volterra - and just a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast. The building in which the estate has its premises is an ancient historic residence of the nineteenth century, which has been completely renovated, maintaining intact the original architecture. The property extends over a total area of 70 hectares, comprising 16 hectares of vineyards, 6 hectares of olive groves, 27 hectares devoted to seed plots, with the remaining hectares cloaked in woodland. Here the present owners have organised the cellar in line with the most advanced vinification techniques, through a complete renovation of the premises and the equipment for the processing, storage and ageing of the wine. It is in these cellars that the wine comes to birth, is refined and acquires wisdom. Each year the estate produces 700 hl of wine and 15 hl of first-pressing extra-virgin olive oil, achieving a level of quality such as to satisfy even the most demanding palates. The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. The only downsides were that we had trouble connecting to wifi and the Sky TV wasn't available until the last evening, but the positives definitely outweighed these. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...) The Borgo Tollena is immersed in the green countryside, but at the same time it is within easy reach of all the most important Tuscan cities of art like Florence, Siena, Volterra - and just a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast. The building in which the estate has its premises is an ancient historic residence of the nineteenth century, which has been completely renovated, maintaining intact the original architecture. The property extends over a total area of 70 hectares, comprising 16 hectares of vineyards, 6 hectares of olive groves, 27 hectares devoted to seed plots, with the remaining hectares cloaked in woodland. Here the present owners have organised the cellar in line with the most advanced vinification techniques, through a complete renovation of the premises and the equipment for the processing, storage and ageing of the wine. It is in these cellars that the wine comes to birth, is refined and acquires wisdom. The location is superb, setting magnificent and grounds/pool area nicely thought out. There are lots of areas to sit quietly and relax, with excellent outdoor dining areas. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished with very comfortable beds. One slight improvement would have been a chest of drawers in the bedroom, we only had a wardrobe to place our clothes. We arrived very late and would reaaly have appreciated a small welcome pack, for eg bread and bottled water as all supermarkets were closed, which meant we had to wait until the next morning to stock up! A minor suggestion, however it would definitely make a big difference upon arrival. Would however recommend the Villa to friends and family and would like one day to return. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect. The only downsides were that we had trouble connecting to wifi and the Sky TV wasn't available until the last evening, but the positives definitely outweighed these. It is centrally located and very close to San Gimignano (a beautiful little town with lots of character dinner options in the evenings and off course the best gelaterias). Apartment very nice, very clean and tastefully decorated. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only down side is that a couple of the apartments allow for quite big groups. We were unlucky enough to have a couple with six boys aged between 8 and 18. They could fill the pool on their own and unfortunately their apartment was above ours and the noise coming through the ceiling was near constant. The apartment was so very clean that it made us feel very comfortable. We had everything you would need in a kitchen and bathroom and we did prepare several meals on our apartment. The views from our apartment were breathtaking! The grounds of the Borgo Tollena were also very well tended and beautiful. We stayed at Borgo Tollena unit La stellaia with my family (6 total) and it was perfect. It was very spacious, and each room had it's own bathroom. Everything was updated and very nicely decorated. Outside we had our own grassy area with a picnic table with a gorgeous view of the vineyards - perfect for lunch or dinner. The pool was great to come home to after a day of touring the countryside. San Gimignano was close by (5 minute drive), but not quite close enough to walk, unless you wanted to go on a long walk. The supplies were sparse (no soap or paper towels) but that was easily remedied by a trip to the local supermarket. Barbara, the manager, was very helpful with breakfast the first morning and trying to figure out the internet (which was spotty...)
