Ribollita Toscana is a very popular soup dish which can be found all over Tuscany. Like most of Tuscan cuisine, it comes from peasant origins and combines the region's saltless bread, beans, and cavolo nero (Lacinato kale). Ribollita is a practical dish by its very nature, intended for reheating and use on more than one occasion. In fact, the name means “boiled twice.” There are many, many different recipes with different regions (and even homes) having their own versions but all will include onions, carrots, celery, beans, cavolo nero, bread and olive oil. Humble though it may be, it is a wholesome, tasty, comforting dish and one that's perfect throughout the year. This series of posts is all about practical tips and advice that have been reaffirmed in this author's mind after her most recent trip to Tuscany. While Tuscany is beautiful and I had an incredible time, things are done rather differently to home (Ireland) and those cultural differences and confusions can lead to stress that can ruin a vacation. As I had lived in Italy before, I was prepared for much of it but there were some new things I learned, especially about travelling in a large group and with family. 7. Food, variation, intolerances

As I mentioned in an earlier post in this series, things are often done a little differently in Italy. Opening hours are wildly different in Tuscany compared to in Ireland and many other places I have been.

In this final post in this series on tips and tricks for having a pleasant trip in Tuscany, I am sharing my last bits of advice for those travelling to the region. Having just returned from Tuscany, I reaffirmed lots of my thoughts on holidaying in Italy and learned a few new things about Tuscany, in particular. If you want to avoid stress caused by cultural differences and confusion that can take away from a vacation, be sure to keep these things in mind!

9. Book in advance. Plan in advance.

Opening hours, as we have discussed, vary in Italy and attractions can also be open or closed on different days during the week. Also, as Tuscany is home to a multitude of the world's most popular and famous attractions, you can meet large queues and booked-out venues.

There are many, many different tours of the historic city of Florence and, with so much to see and do from food and wine-tasting to viewing art to visiting haunted hotspots, there is no shortage of different ways to experience the city. Depending on what you're interested in, what age you are, how fit you are, what language you speak, who you're with etc there are a range of different kinds of tours to choose from and a variety of modes of transport to get around. You can walk, run, take a bus, cycle, go on a segway or, even, take to the Arno River. Tours of an Italian city by water might bring Venice to mind but it is also a viable way to see Florence by cycling along the Arno. How can one cycle the Arno, you might ask? Great location! Steps from the Duomo, restaurants, sites, etc. Wonderful check in/check out experience. Lots of mosquitoes which left several bites if windows were left open...could have been time of year.
