Property Description

The Farmhouse ‘Le Poggiola’ welcomes its guests to a green and peaceful corner of Tuscany not far from the city of Florence. Situated in the district of Serravalle Pistoiese, 8 km from Pistoia, ‘Le Poggiola’ lets you enjoy a holiday in the countryside amongst nature. The owners’ first passion was to restore the old farmhouse, but in doing so they discovered a new love for everything to do with the culture of the vine. Starting with a vineyard of 2.5 hectares planted in 1976, they perfected the art of making, ageing, and bottling wine. In the year 2001 three new vineyards hve been planted. Today we produce traditional Chianti wine, white and rose DOC wine, and the Tuscan Vin Santo, a sweet dessert wine made with dried grapes. We also produce a fruity extra-virgin olive oil with 2000 plants.
Wine and olive oil tasting of are available on demand and Le Poggiola’s owners are happy to share their knowledge of their home produced products.
The house is surrounded with beautiful gardens where you can simply relax and enjoy the countryside.
Due to the clever arrangement of the rooms and the surrounding countryside, even the presence of a major road in the distance cannot break the peace of the olive groves.

Guest Reviews for Fattoria le Poggiola

Nice farmhouse, with easy access to main Tuscany attractions - Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Chianti etc.

Adv: good location (Pistoa is a fantastic city - make sure you do not miss it), nice and big house with 2 kitchens (important if you travel with many people), and 6 rooms. Comfortable for 12 people + 4 babies. Absolutely fantastic garden and super nice swimming pool with amazing view - we spent lots of time around it !

Disadv: very, very close to the motorway. The unique farmhouse location on the hill ensures that you won't see the motorway (even though it is literally 100m away) but you will hear it. After 2 days, we got used to that and we didn't hear that anymore. Definitely not disturbing, but good to know. Cleaning: Despite the 150 E fee for cleaning, you still need to ensure you take the bottles out (owner follows some strict garbage recycling rules and you are asked to follow the same) and clean the kitchens. Otherwise you might not get your deposit back.

Overall a good experience and worth considering.

This was the perfect place for our 3-generation family vacation in Tuscany.

We rented the whole property and had an excellent time. Despite the proximity of the autostrada the property is very secluded and relaxing and the owners very helpful and generous with their time. We had a large family and friends celebrating a 50th and it was ideal, providing enough space and activities for everyone to do their own thing without conflict. It is well placed to explore Northern Tuscany - Pisa to Florence - and the local villages and altos are well worth exploring and have some excellent eating places. It's not 5 star luxury but it has rustic charm in spades. You may wish to avoid all but the downstairs room if you struggle with steps or don't do sharing bathrooms but otherwise I wholeheartedly recommend Lisa and her property. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

We researched different areas and villas and farms for weeks before settling on Fattoria Le Poggiola. It was even better than I had imagined it would be. The farm was a little tricky getting to as there are many little roads and not all signs are easy to find/read but once we found it, it was ok. The long driveway leading up to the farm house from the highway takes you away from the roads and up into the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. The land itself is beautiful: hilly and varied terrain containing olive groves, vineyards, beautiful trees and flowering plants, grassy areas, tree covered patios, and gravel around the back of the farm. There's a path through the vineyards and groves that takes you to their little lake. From everywhere you can see the Tuscan hills and mountains. The house is cozy and beautiful, and very well loved and taken care of. The 4 children stayed on the third floor in 2 very nice bedrooms. They shared a roomy bathroom. It was very warm up there but the fans and open windows made it comfortable enough at night. My sister and her husband and myself and my husband stayed on the 2nd floor in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. The bedrooms were quite spaced apart, giving each of us plenty of privacy and comfort. Everywhere were wooden windows and shutters that could be opened up to allow air flow. We stayed during a particularly hot period in July but slept comfortably with windows open and ceiling or standing fans on. Everything was decorated very prettily, each bedroom having its own color and theme. There was a kitchen on the 2nd floor, however, we didn't use it. There was also a washing machine in the kitchen. My parents stayed on the 1st floor, downstairs, in the largest, Arancione, bedroom. The stairs are stone and quite steep, especially between the 2nd and 3rd floor. To me, it all added to the charm of the farmhouse. The "living room/dining room" contains a long table with chairs. It's a dark room unless you keep all the shuttered windows and backdoor open. We didn't really sit there as we always sat outside. The kitchen was a large, comfortable professional kitchen. The stove and washing machine are quite different from what we were used to and required a little extra explanation, but no problem. It was fun to stand in the kitchen and prepare our meals all together. The kids had a great time playing ping pong tennis outside (2 ping pong tables) and swimming in the pool. Lisa Barsi, the owner, was extremely helpful and friendly. She gave us a lengthy, detailed tour of her vineyards and the wine making cellar. Afterwards, we tasted the wines and had delicious cheese, meats, and bread to go along with her wines. We loved the Cuo Nero and the 2005 Chianti!!! Please be aware that the charge is 15 euros/person for the wine tour. Sitting outside together, amidst all the beauty and wonderful air, we felt like staying forever. I can't say enough good things about the property. Be aware that you must pay for the pool towels and any EXTRA towels you ask for beyond the towels that are laid out in the bedrooms. Plenty of bath towels are provided for you upon arrival. The washing machine (small capacity) can be used free of charge. Please be aware that you need to buy all your own water to drink as it's not advised to drink the water at Le Poggiola. There's a small grocery store in Monsummano (5 minutes) and a large, very nice grocery store in Montecatini (10 minutes).
