Cortona is a charming medieval hilltown in Tuscany which is an important artistic and cultural centre. Within the walls of the town, it can sometimes seem as though time has stopped long ago and everywhere you turn, you will see historic architectural gems. However, some of the real highlights of the town and its surrounding area are its churches. The Church of Santa Maria Nuova, in particular, as a centralised square-plan Renaissance church, is a prime example of an important principle of Renaissance construction. Santa Maria Nuova was built by Giorgio Vasari in 1554 and is an example of one of that great architect’s later works. Property Description
The farmhouses inside the Agricultural Farm. A few km far from Cortona, in the rich and fertile Valdichiana, which like an unfenced flower garden changes colour with the seasons there is the Azienda Agrituristica Il Barattino. This large farm is full of fruit trees, olive groves and vineyards and offers hospitality in two beautiful stone farmhouses in typical Tuscan rural style. The houses are tastefully furnished, their terracotta, wood and stone interiors keep the taste of the old peasant life.
The swimming pool and the outdoor areas. At guests disposal and for their exclusive use the swimming pool (size 6x12 m. completely fenced), a table tennis and the bicycles. On the ground floor of the main house, in front of the pool, there are a bathroom with shower and a changing room. Each house has its own private garden equipped with outdoor furniture, barbecue and wood burning oven.
The hill villages, Cortona and Trasimeno Lake. Cortona with its medieval style, Etruscan origins and immense store of valuable works of art is easily reached by car. Nearby is Lake Trasimeno, one of Italy's largest lakes. The many ancient towns on the hillside all around make Lake Trasimeno Nature Reserve an undamaged and uncontaminated area.

Tolle und gepflegte Unterkunft. Die Putzfrau und ihr Mann waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Die Eigentümerin der Häuser war etwas distanziert, jedoch sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Das Doppelbett und die Schlafcouch im Wohnzimmer waren unbequem.

We enjoyed a fantastic week at Il Barattino.
Paola was there upon our arrival making us feel very welcome indeed.
The two houses were immaculately clean and were perfect dwellings for us (9 adults and a toddler).
The air conditioning was superb (on the lowest setting it bordered on freezing but that was just right for us fair skinned Scots/Irish in the near 40degree heat outside).
The pool was very clean and was tested several times during our stay.
There's lots of outside seating available - ranging from pool loungers to tables and chairs both in the sun and shade - giving plenty of opportunity for al fresco dining and afternoon refreshments.
The views from both houses are gorgeous - it's not often you would look out of your kitchen window to vineyards, blue skies and the beautiful Tuscan hills.
In terms of laction, it is a great base to visit Cortona, the lakes, Assisi and Siena - although a car would be essential.
We had a magnificent time here and were very well looked after by the hosts - who even made us a huge feast of Italian food on one of our nights!
