Welcoming apartment on the first floor of an historical house in the center of Pari, a characteristic and tranquil hamlet of Etruscan origin. From the beginning of the 1500's Pari was an outpost of the Superior Province of the Sienese State, and at the end of the 1700's it fell under the jurisdicition of Grosseto. Perched on a hill looking out over the Ombrone valley, Pari is a place where time seems to stand still. The small village, with its charming, narrow stone streets, has a general store, restaurant, bar, newsagent and daily bus service to Siena and the seaside. During the summer months, Pari plays host to many traditional and characteristic town festivals. Nearby are the thermal baths of Petriolo, which were already known in Roman times. The property's location is halfway between the major Tuscan art cities and the coastline with kilometers of beaches. The apartment offers a well-equipped lawn with a beautiful view of the Ombrone valley, with Mount Amiata in the distance. It is furnished in a simple, rustic style.

Bagni Di Petriolo: Tuscany's Lesser-Known Spa Town

While it may be news to some that Tuscany is one of the best spa destinations in the world, we have written extensively about the different thermal springs, spa towns, and spa complexes located across the region in the past. In fact, there are plenty of different options to choose from and one could even go on a spa town tour, if they wanted to, while spending time in Tuscany. However, if you have found a luxury villa in Siena and are looking to go on a spa day while staying in the province, then we recommend a visit to Bagni di Petriolo.

Famous for its thermal springs since the time of the Ancient Romans and with awareness of the healing benefits of the waters dating back as far as 1200AD, Bagni di Petriolo has long since attracted visitors who come to imbibe and soak in her waters. Throughout the centuries, the town has even drawn some particularly famous and high-profile figures from all over – including popes, cardinals, the Medici, the Malatesta family of Pesaro, the family of the Duke of Urbino, and the Gonzaga family of Mantua – such was its reputation.

For those who book one of our villas in Tuscany, we recommend not only enjoying the harvest delights of delicious food and wine, hiking the gorgeous landscapes and exploring the beautiful towns and villages while the temperatures turn pleasantly mild and perfect for such excursions, and making the most of the smaller tourist crowds and queues at famous attractions but also heading to a spa town. Tuscany abounds in gorgeous spa towns and destinations with natural thermal springs and we have listed many examples in the past but today’s pick is Terme di Petriolo, an easy spot to add into an itinerary if you are staying in a vacation rental in Siena.

For an exciting tourist experience during your holiday to Tuscany, take a few days to explore the enchanting Val di Merse. It’s a community of towns and villages encased by the River Merse and the River Farma that has been relatively untouched over the millennia. Visitors would thoroughly enjoy several day trips through its main towns of Chiusdino, Monticiano, Murlo, Radicondoli and Sovicille as well as some nearby medieval hamlets. Another spotlight.... so do you really want to get away from it all, no noise, no traffic, no internet ? Just nature and beauty ?? We have it: Il Casale. This is just the typical Tuscan house and how you would imagine it, it's just that the pictures don't do it justice.

The owner Adriana takes such care of her house and the grounds, it's incredible. She's an old lady but still going strong, just leave her a note in the Guestbook ! So what you don't really see from the description and the pictures is that the interiors have been furnished with great taste and detail, and that the garden around the house is huge. There is no pool but who needs one if you can swim in the cristal clear water of the Farma river (walking distance from the house). Satisfaction Guaranteed !

Tourist couples wishing to engage in this fun learning experience can really go anywhere in Tuscany, the home of plentiful rustic cooks, but this link (no longer available) could be perfect to both stay in and enjoy a cookery lesson. It’s called Casal Gheriglio and is one of many properties in Tuscany that can accommodate visitors and provide them with a cookery lesson in one ideal package!

Many similar properties have an owner that are accomplished chefs who provide demonstrations which can include a week long, full or half day cookery course, as well as wine, honey and olive oil tasting courses. These can be enjoyed as part of a specialised price that includes your accommodation.

How to describe this remote restaurant in the Tuscan countryside, Murlo is one of the many hamlets that you can find off from the ancient Cassia road that leads from Siena to Rome …? SURREAL? This is probably the appropriate term to describe this place.

Perhaps because you’ll see and hear colors, sounds and smells that you thought no longer existed, immersed in a place unchanged by time and make you feel so far away from your world, but more than ever with our feet on the ground; or maybe because the place has always been managed by the legendary Brunello, with his beautiful Nigerian wife Stella.

It’s a mix between a bar, a typical Tuscan inn and a country house, where you’ll probably have lunch in the veranda among the spices planted in the garden and washed table cloths spread out in the sun to dry which Stella will collect while singing songs from her homeland ; or maybe because here you can still savor the delicious traditional homemade food served in large bowls and without too many choices (you eat what they cook for you), among which dominates the wild boar: in the ragù, roasted and in sauce – hunted and cooked by the man Brunello himself.

This is the philosophy that I’ve seen here: the concepts of “kindness, service, family atmosphere” are not contemplated, Brunello and Stella come as they are, as God made them. The place is, as mentioned, very special and not everyone will like it but if you’re in the area and want to feel the “Tuscan soul” you shouldn’t miss this experience.

An excellent property for the money. It is perfect for anyone seeking something other than a luxury "tourist" villa. It is in the middle of a very small town (where everybody says hello to you) Access by car is easy (unless one has a very large car in which case one can get no nearer than 150 metres). The views are magnificent, plenty of quiet walking, a few metres from the local bar/restaurant (menu in English available), very near free hot sulphur pools/river for bathing. The accommodation is part of the outer ring of town properties (three stories high) so there is, by its nature, some very very limited noise from neighbours - we were not bothered by this despite normally being supersensitive to noise.
