The farm has several buildings and a total of 10 apartments groupped around a watchtower. The large fenced grounds with beautiful lawns offer many places to relax. The owners live there and look after the guests. Local produces such as olive oil, honey and truffles can be bought on site. Swimming-towels are available for the clients (extra). Situated between the Arno River valley and the north face of Elsa valley, Castelfiorentino was once a military base because it was of equal distance from the main Renaissance cities of Pisa, Siena and Florence. It was originally built on the side of the famous Via Francigena pilgrim route to facilitate the many travellers who passed by and needed somewhere to eat and rest for the night.

The town’s original name was Castelvecchio, meaning ‘old castle’ because it grew on the site of an ancient Roman castle known as Timignano. It was a huge fortress with doubled layer walls with five gates and a lookout tower. Some of its ruins can still be seen today by tourists. In 1149, the town’s name was changed to Castelfiorentino because of its close relations with the city of Florence.

Het was een fijn huis we hadden alles wat wij nodig hadden. Het enige nadeel was dat er geen airco in het huis was. Met 41 graden was dat voor de nachten wel een must. Zeker omdat onze kinderen met 3-en op een kamer lagen.

This apartment was cozy, and comfortable with a classic Tuscan decor. It looked just like the pictures, and was even roomier. The private patio outside the door was perfect for relaxing and looking over the beautiful farm. The owners who live on site are welcoming, charming and very helpful We really enjoyed the dinner served one evening. It allowed us to meet the other guests from all over Europe. Nearby Castelfiorentino is a good place to catch the train for day trips, or Sienna, San Gigmignano (lovely) and Florence are all within an hour's drive.
