Property Description

Our farm is located in the heart of the region of Chianti Classico near Greve, looking out over Montefioralle, a splendid medieval village ,in an untouched natural setting.
It is on the top of a hill (1400 feet above sea level) with a magnificent
360 ° view. Even in the summer it stays cool,with a fresh breeze.
The property includes a cluster of four houses that once served as a stopping place on the ancient salt road (there's still a trace of the road in the path which goes by the pool) as well as approximately 10 hectares (20 acres) of land, including four hectares of vineyards, an olive grove, a stand of cypress trees, meadow and woods.
When we bought the farm in 1994,it was semi abandoned and the buildings were in terrible disrepair. Since then we have dedicated ourselves to restoring them as closely as possible to their original form, using only local and environmentally compatible materials and personally supervising every phase of the restoration down to the last details.
The farm has a vineyard of about 4 hectares. The vines are registered for Chianti Classico and produce mainly San Giovese grapes along with small amounts of the Trebbiano and Canaiolo varieties.
It is a vineyard, in part old and in part more recently planted, that we cultivate with great care, strictly limiting the use of fertilizers and chemicals. Currently we do not produce the wine ourselves. Until we finish reconstructing our own facility, we must send our grapes to the winery, Basilica Cafaggio di Panzano.
In the farm there is also the private villa I MANDORLI ( see ID 59627) with private pool.

The swimming-pool, (12x6m depth 1.4 open from end of May to end of September) with its breath taking view, is situated among the olive-trees not far away from the apartaments

We suggest to have a car because it is the most convenient way to travel in the country area.
Anyway the bus trasportation from Greve to Florence and/or Siena is quite good and cheap

There are several free parking just nearby the house. The square where is located the house is a pedestrian area and just a short time to unload the luggage is permit.

Great location. Very scenic and close to downtown Greve. Nice terrace patio to watch sunsets and drink some of the fabulouse local wines. Roberto the owner was very nice and helpful with local places to eat at. He also had very friendly dog name Boo.

The area was beautiful although challenging to find. We really liked the town of Greve which was close by, just down the high hills. The owner, Roberto, was very helpful with directions and with advice on things to do or see. The space in our cottage was great, the bathroom was fairly new and well equipped with a nice shower. The bed was comfortable, but we would have liked to have an extra pillow. The kitchen was OK, with a small gas stove and a toaster oven. However, there were only the bare minimum of things to use. We even had to ask for a corkscrew and this in the Chianti region known for its wines. There were only 2 wine glasses, we ended up buying our own proper wine glasses. There was no kettle, we heated water in a saucepan. There are absolutely no extras: one dishtowel, one sponge, no paper towels, only 1 roll of toilet paper. We had to buy salt and pepper even. If I had known that I would have packed a few kitchen essentials so that we did not have to buy as much. Overall, we liked the location and the space, the owners were pleasant,and the place was clean, but do not expect any nice touchs of welcome to another's home.

We spent a wonderful week with our 3 children at Montefili. The location is very isolated and has a beautiful view of sweeping Tuscan hills. The hosts Roberto and Elena are extremely gracious and helpful, and they speak very good English. The rental unit was cool even in the 37 degree heat, with tile floors and thick walls. It really had the feeling of a Tuscan farmhouse, but an elegant one. Swimming pool was fun for the kids, and our hosts provided us with wonderful restaurant (off the beaten path) and winery recommendations. Would stay here again.
