Villa Carolina is a wonderful 3 bedroom-3 bathroom villa situated in the centre of Tuscany in the beautiful wine region between Florence and Siena, just 1 km from the tiny historic hamlet of Linari and 8 km from San Gimignano.
It is a great location from which you can explore the area;
the nearest local town of Poggibonsi with an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and supermarkets is just 2 km away and it’s a joy to wander through the pretty surrounding Chianti countryside.
All of Tuscany’s jewels are easily reached, with both Florence and Siena being only just over half an hours’ drive away by car or accessible via train and bus connections from nearby Poggibonsi. The famous medieval town of San Gimignano is just 10 minutes away, and many more of the regions attractions are easily visited.
Distances: The village of Linari is only 1 km, supermarket and all kind of shops can be found 2 km away in Poggibonsi with all kind of shops (open 7/7 days, from 08 am to 08 pm), San Gimignano 8 km, Florence 33 km, Siena at 22 km, Pisa at 75 km, Volterra at km 33, the sea at 80 km, Airport Florence 43 km, Airport Pisa 80 km, Montalcino km 60, Montepulciano km 65, Pienza km 58. There is one at 1 km distance from Villa Carolina.
At guests' disposal: THE VILLA IS FULLY AIR CONDITIONED
In a pretty position overlooking the valley there is the swimming pool with salt water (11m x 5m depth 1.10-1.60 m), and also a separate hydrotherapy SPA Jacuzzi tub (€ 40, per 30 minutes for 4 persons) which is beneficial to the skin.
The swimming pool is open from the 30 March to 31 October.
The swimming pool has a roman style shape with steps gradually leading down into the water which is slightly salted. The pool has two hydro massage corners, an infinity edge and is particularly beautiful in the evening as its lights change the colour of the water creating a romantic atmosphere. The hot-tub should be reserved in advance.
The villa has its own private entrance and the garden is fully fenced. Parking is in the grounds next to the villa.
The garden and pool are for the exclusive use of guests renting the Villa Carolina.
The owners who live in the other part of the house with its own separate entrance are friendly and helpful.
The garden and orchard, lettuce, vegetables and aromatic herbs are also for your use as well as a barbeque and equipped area. The villa also has a laundry area with soap, iron and ironing board at your disposal.
Private parking on site, for up to 4 cars.
Extra Services The owners can provide typical Tuscan dinners with " Bistecca alla Fiorentina" and also cooking classes on request (not available on Saturdays).
Interior Description
Villa Carolina (200 sqm) is comfortably furnished to a high standard in pretty classic style, with Florentine oak wood parquet floors, lovely Venetian stucco walls and many antique pieces throughout the villa creating a homely and inviting atmosphere.
THE VILLA IS FULLY AIR CONDITIONED
All on the ground floor, the villa's entrance leads to a characteristic open plan living-room which has a fully equipped kitchen area (5 gas rings, small electric combined oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher), dining table and chairs, and sitting area with settee, satellite television and DVD player.
There are three lovely bedrooms: one with double bed and ensuite shower room, and two triples with double bed and single bed.
There are a further two bathrooms, one with bathtub and shower, one with shower, and a pretty little sitting room.
Hairdryer in each bathroom.
The living room opens directly onto the covered loggia terrace and in turn to the villa's gorgeous garden which is adorned with plants and flowers.
In the garden there is a barbecue and lovely wrought iron two gazebos furnished with table and chairs for dining al fresco whilst enjoying the essence of the Tuscan countryside.
All the windows have mosquito screens.
There is an broadband internet connection for guests' use.

First off, I believe that honest reviews are the best. People spend a lot of money sight-unseen and it is critical to help set proper expectations.
Overall, we were most pleased with the accommodations. There were seven of us (5 adults and 2 teens) and we were more than comfortable. We felt more than welcomed by our wonderful hostess, Lucia.
The view could not have been more scenic and the pool (note, unheated for those traveling in the offseason) and patio area were quite nice.
Of course, it is difficult for any rental location to live up to the expectations set by the website photos and this one was no exception. The place was just a little bit more "lived in" than the photos would indicate, but that's just good marketing! Just set your expectations accordingly. We had some minor issues which I'm certain the owner would have tackled had we asked (a few ants in the kitchen and an A/C unit in one of the bedrooms wouldn't work). But, certainly we experienced nothing that should cause a person hesitation in booking this villa.
As advertised, the village of Poggibonsi is quaint and has a lot to offer. However, be aware that nothing is within walking distance. You need a car. That said, the location is perfectly nestled between Siena, Florence, and San Gimingnano---an easy drive to all places.
All told, I felt that I more than received a value for my money. To put 7 in a place like that for a week was a winner, in my mind and I would recommend it to anyone who asks!Would you recommend this property to a friend? Yes

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsWe were 2 couples staying at Villa Carolina for the first two weeks of October. The Villa itself is spacious, clean, comfortable and wonderfully furnished and decorated. The large, manicured garden, with infinity pool and hot tub, offers a panoramic view of vineyards, olive groves and the small city of Poggibonsi below. The Villa is ideally located for day trips to Firenze, Siena, Pisa and many other historic sites, such as San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti and Volterra. Our hosts, Gabriele and Lucia, were extremely friendly and accommodating. They prepared several meals for us and the food and presentation would rival the best restaurants that we visited in Tuscany. Overall, our experience at Villa Carol was nothing less than perfect.

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsA group of four retired professional women, we spent one glorious week at the Villa Carolina while touring the Tuscany area. The high spot of the trip was the villa and the proprietors, Gabrielle and Lucia. We arrived exhausted on a Saturday and had arranged for Lucia to prepare dinner for us. It was fabulous. Though she speaks limited English, we had no trouble communicating and she was eager for us to be comfortable and to provide a good experience for us. It was wonderful returning to the Villa each evening after a long day of visiting sites in Tuscany. To sit out under the gazebo and enjoy our wine, and the beautiful views. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. All in all, a wonderful place to stay!

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Tuscany-- the location was perfect, and the views were gorgeous. We were only able to enjoy the pristine pool once due to the cooler weather, but we still enjoyed relaxing on the huge deck. The owners, who live upstairs, were always immediately responsive and helpful (rebooting internet, helping with the laundry, etc.) but not intrusive. The highlight was an excellent dinner cooked by Lucia-- antipasto, bread, salad, pasta bolognese, bistecca, dessert, and liquers. Lucia and Gabriele used to have a restaurant in Florence and clearly know how to entertain. The translator app on my phone proved helpful as well.

We had an excellent dinner prepared by Lucia and Gabriele made a point to spend some time with us talking about wine etc. The house was clean and grounds gorgeous. We also loved the location. The owners, Lucia and Gabrielle we so friendly and conscientious about making sure all our needs were met. Lucia even surprised us one evening by bringing over a wonderfully cooked Italian meal, dessert and all! The location of the villa was perfect for our day trips into the Tuscan hill towns and really close to Poggibonsi where there was a great grocery store (Pam) and a fabulous wine bar where we became fast friends with Luca and Francesca. Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsVilla Carolina was an outstanding place to spend a vacation. The Villa is large and absolutely spotless. We were a group of six and never felt crowded at all. The grounds and pool area are immaculate and it was so wonderful to enjoy our meals outside overlooking the beautiful scenery.
Gabriele and Lucia were very welcoming and enthusiastically showed us around the Villa. Throughout our stay they brought us little treats--peaches from their tree, peppers--and the meal we had prepared by Lucia was incredible.
The location is great for touring Tuscany by car, and there is a train station in nearby Poggibonsi as well.

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsWhat a gem. This villa is perfect for those that want a base to visit Tuscany especially if you have a car. The owners Gabriele and Lucia are very warm and welcoming. We had Lucia prepare a evening meal for us which was just superb. The location of the Villa is perfect being just minutes from a fairly large town of Poggibonsi that has all your shopping and transport needs and yet with the villa being nestled on a hill over looking Poggibonsi amongst olive and grape farms it provides a very tranquil setting giving you the feeling you are miles away from everything. There is a railway station in Poggibonsi with rail connections to Florence and Sienna. Buses also run from the town places like beautiful San Gimignano. There is a large PAM Supermarket about 3km from the villa which can cater for all your food and drink requirements. The only minor criticism I would make is that you need to supply items such as dishwashing detergent, kitchen cloth/scourer, toilet paper, garbage bags etc all those things that are usually included. Otherwise the perfect place in a perfect location.

The appartment has their own private beautiful garden with an amazing swimming pool. The owners ( Gabriele, Lucia and their daughter Carolina )they lived upstairs. We appreciate the owners helpfullness and discretion. Lucia prepared us a fantastic dinner with 4 courses and served a tasty wine.

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsThere were six of us in our party and we were all ‘blown away’ with Villa Carolina, both inside and outside, as we were warmly shown around by Gabriel & Lucia. The place was beyond expectation, and the fact that the weather was beautiful obviously helped us see it in its best light. We spent a glorious week there, relaxing by and in the pool most mornings and dining in the garden as often as we could. We all agreed it was our best holiday and would be keen to go back, as it was a superb base to visit the breath taking region of Tuscany. Thank you!

It was a beautiful 5 course meal, served to us outdoors, overlooking the valley of vineyards and olive groves. we enjoyed it so much we asked for a second meal 4 days later. Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsThe owners Lucia and Gabrielle made us feel very welcome during our stay. They explained where everything was, how to work everything, and couldn’t reiterate enough that if we needed anything at all, just knock on their door and they would be happy to help. The house was very clean and tidy. My brother Daniel even went around Gabrielle and Lucia’s to use their WI-FI connection to do a Skype interview for a job!!
We travelled to Volterra, San Gimignano, Florence, and Siena which were all amazing days out, and all within 1 hour away. We even fit in two days lazing by the pool. Lucia cooked an amazing meal for my mum’s birthday. We had so much left we had it the night after too. Lucia had some more left so she even brought that around and told us how to make it ourselves! The wine was also very nice.
In summary Lucia and Gabrielle couldn’t have been more helpful, they were fantastic from the moment we got there to the sad moment we had to leave. We would all definitely come back for a second time. Highly recommended.Would you recommend this property to a friend? Yes

Great views, great lawn, great indoor space, even greater hosts Gabriele and Lucia (whose cooking is better than 5 star restaurants). If forced to complain about something, I can only say we couldn't swim because the water was too cold in the pool. Granted the weather was cool. I would score it a 10 out of 10 though since I'm not a big swimmer anyway.

One of the highs was our accommodation which was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious. Lucia and Gabrielle (the owners) made us feel very welcome. Lucia cooked a wonderful meal for my daughters birthday; which she still talks about. The villa has easy access to a washing machine which was important to us as when we arrived as we had already been travelling for 5 weeks.
The location was fantastic for exploring the wine regions around the countryside and also great for travelling into Florence. I would highly recommend this villa for anyone wanting accommodation in Tuscany. Lucia is clearly the best cook in all of Italy as she prepared the most delicious dinners for us many times during our stay. Villa Carolina is even better in reality than it is in the pictures here. The interior is absolutely immaculate and the exterior is beautifully kept and landscaped. The pool is delightful as is the surrounding views of the vineyards and Tuscany. Also the local wine tasted very well, ... we could use a drink after climbing with our cars at the top of the hill, where the villa is located, which indeed offers a breathtaking view of Poggibonsi,... We had everything we needed in the villa. The kids had a wonderfull time in the swimming pool and also the adults could use some refreshment in this african-atmosphere (40°C). The villa and the garden is realy clean and nice decorated. The kitchen is equiped with dishwasher, freezer and gas stove. There are a nice village nearby (about 6km) with a grocery, a butcher, a typical italian bar and lovely restaurants with delicous, tuscany dishes. Also you can find, just 3 minutes by car, a big supermarket.

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsVilla Carolina was simply amazing! Situated on a quiet country road, this property offers a breathtaking view of Poggibonsi, a Tuscan town that is situated perfectly for visiting Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano. There is a bus station and a train station in Poggibonsi, but a car is highly recommended so you can visit wineries and really get to see the Tuscan countryside.
The owners, Gabrielle and Lucia (and their beautiful daughter, Carolina) will greet you upon your arrival and will take care of anything you might need such as recommending places to visit while in Tuscany. They are so kind and helpful; yet, although they live on the second story, they will give you total privacy. Lucia even drove us to the train station in her van to pick up our friends. They take care of business matters in their quaint office and will even give you a little gift. Their English is good enough to understand everything you need to. You will find a menu inside the house if you choose to have Lucia cook for you. She can also provide you with morning espresso or arrange for you to take a cooking class.
The house is beautiful and decorated with original paintings, many of which were created by Gabrielle himself. Each of the three bedrooms is spacious and comfortable. One has a bathroom en suite, the other two each have a full bathroom just outside their doors. I loved opening my bedroom window to hear the birds each morning! There is a living room with a large flat screen TV offering Sky TV, but honestly, with so much natural beauty around, you won’t be inside watching TV. The kitchen is adorable and has a table big enough to seat 8 comfortably and a sofa that also makes into a bed. We cooked up and enjoyed some unforgettable meals there. There is also a BBQ outside and two more tables and chairs so you can enjoy a lovely meal outdoors while listening to the fountains splashing in the infinity pool.
The grounds are gorgeous and include a lawn, infinity pool, hot tub, laundry room, BBQ, outdoor tables and chairs and a breathtaking view of the countryside. Willow trees grace the property, the infinity pool is trimmed with lovely statures, and the playful swing hanging from a tree is inviting, even to adults. The birds will sing you a chorus every morning and throughout the day. In the evenings, you can sip wine while looking at the twinkling lights in the valley below, listen to the splashing fountains, and imagine for a moment that you can stay there forever. You will feel like a local living on a hillside in Tuscany.
There is a nearby superstore called Pam’s. You can’t miss it. It is actually one of the turn-offs in the roundabout! You will be able to find groceries, local wines, and various sundries there, but they close at 8:00 PM. Make sure that you take a train into Florence on at least one day. You won’t want to drive there due to the many streets where cars are not allowed and the possibility of getting a photo ticket in the mail once you get home. The train was a great experience and it is easy to walk to the Uffizi, Academia , or city center from the train station. Make sure you get your museum tickets online before you go so you can avoid the lines. (Called using info in Rick Steve’s books.) You can pick up your Uffizi ticket at door C which is near the end of the long ticket line. Take the time to visit the other hilltowns nearby too. Sample their wines and shopping. And take a day or two to visit local wineries and taste the amazing wines and olive oil. You will find an unbelievably huge street fair in Arezzo on the first Sunday of each month. And don’t forget to try the gelato in every town you visit.
Villa Carolina provided the most wonderful, centrally located, clean, comfortable, welcoming, charming, peaceful place for us to spend a blissful springtime week in Tuscany. We highly recommend this property and its gracious owners Gabrielle and Lucia. We hope to stay there again.Would you recommend this property to a friend? Yes
Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsWe had a fantastic time at Villa Carolina. The property was absolutely gorgeous and our hosts Gabrielle and Lucia were wonderful. The location is great for venturing off and seeing Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and so many other nearby cities and towns. We had everything we needed in our villa and the last night we enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by our hosts... they will gladly accomodate food allergies and our barbequed ribs were out of this world! Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsOur stay at Villa Carolina was very memorable. The agency Easy Reserve was so efficient and very responsive to emails and any questions we had. Lucia and Gabriele are wonderful people along with their beautiful daughter Carolina. Their hospitality was very much appreciated.
When we first arrived, they made us feel right at home with a welcome coffee along with wines from the region for dinner that night. Gabriele was quite helpful with orienting us and suggesting itineraries for us. One morning, he drove us to the starting point of our Chianti tour which was great. Another time, they suggested we visit Monteriggioni, Colle Val d'Elsa and Volterra - which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! The location of the villa is ideal for taking day trips - we also visited Siena, Florence, Chianti, San Gimignano, Montalcino, etc. with our car rental which is an obvious "must" in this area.
The villa itself was very beautiful and clean, and had all the necessities required. We ate like royalty one night when Lucia made dinner - salumi platters and bruschettas with tomatoes from the villa garden, pastas, bistecca fiorentina, sausages and salads, and biscotti with Vin Santo from the region to top all that off - sublime!
There is just one complaint - that seven days went by as fast as they did! We would recommend Lucia and Gabriele's Villa Carolina to anyone thinking of renting a villa in the Tuscany area.Would you recommend this property to a friend? Yes

Beautiful location and view from terrace and garden! We stayed in wila 2 families with small children for 2 weeks.Villa is for very good value. Garden is very clean and nice, kept very well. Surrounding area of villa is real tuscany country side! The fact that owners live next door was very helpfull. We had over privacy but when we needed help (medicine doctor because of fever of our baby) they helped us promptly and cheerfuly what we really appreciated. They were to our disposal whatever we needed and Pizza from Lucia was the best we tried in Tuscany! We hope we will come again to this great villa again in future. Two thumbs up for owners Gabrielle and Lucia!!! Definitely we recommend to our friends to go there. Martin, Slovakia

Excellent Villa Review Rating DetailsVilla Carol is ideally situated on a hill full of vineyards and cedars and olive trees. From the garden, one has a breathtaking view of the lush Tuscan hills and of the town of Poggibonsi, which is a mere 2 km away from the property. We had a rented car (highly recommended) and we explored Sienna, Florence and the bucolic town of San Gimignano. Villa Carol is situated at a short distance, in the middle of a triangle between these cities and town.
On arrival we were greeted by our hosts, Lucia, Gabriele and their 5 year old daughter Caroline. They are delightful people, very respectful of our privacy and our needs and they were very ready to be of assistance. Our hosts’ English is somewhat limited, but they are eager to please and we managed everything without a problem. Lucia is an excellent cook and one day we asked her to cook a special “Tuscan” dinner for us. Despite our various allergies and dietary restrictions, she managed to create a fabulous feast. I strongly recommend that you try her cooking. It is better than that of many highly rated restaurants. I am a curious type and I initiated chats with Gabriele. He painted many of the paintings found in the villa and he has many interesting stories. He will not disturb you, if you wish to be left alone.
The propriety was quiet and the silence was intermittently interrupted by sound of birds singing and doves doing the ritual, spring mating dance. The infinity pool was inviting, although the weather was a bit cool. The rooms were extremely comfortable and each room has its own bathroom. We were four, but the villa can easily accommodate 6-8 people. Our hosts live on the upper floor and they were very discrete - their presence was hardly noticeable. We had a separate entrance gate for the villa and the layout make it such that we had total privacy.
Shopping for food was easy. A mere 1.5 km away, there is a superstore called PAM and in it one can find everything than one needs. Even the most choosy palates would find fresh produce, pasta, bread, cold cuts, great cheeses, meat products, and DOA (nationally rated) wines, etc
The only downside to this little paradise is the fact that the entrance alley from the front electric gate is at a sharp angle and I managed to scratch my rented car’s door the first time. You need to take a wide angle entry.
One piece of advice: take a GPS because navigating the road signs and the round points can be challenging.
Final comment: All four of us loved our stay at Villa Carol, have fond memories of our hosts and we would be ready to back there in a heartbeat!Would you recommend this property to a friend? Yes
