Tucked into the province of Lucca in Tuscany is the charming little town of Borgo a Mozzano. This peaceful riverside town is most famous for the impressive arched bridge that crosses the River Serchio here. Known by two names, the first is Ponte della Maddalena which translates as the bridge of Mary Magdalene. The second name has a much darker association as it is called Ponte del Diavolo meaning Devil’s Bridge.

Come to Cosa in south-western Tuscany to explore the remains of a Roman town here. Situated 110 metres above sea level, Cosa overlooks the beautiful coastline close to the scenic lagoon town of Orbetello.

Many excavations have taken place here throughout the 20th century to uncover the Roman buildings left in ruins here. A clever street plan had been constructed here. There was a fair sized forum which would have been Cosa town square. Trading of food and goods would have taken place here between the townsfolk.
