The Domenica al Museo initiative has meant that many different museums, galleries, and public institutions all around Italy have offered free entry to members of the public on the first Sunday of each month since April 2022. Every single museum doesn’t necessarily participate but it is likely that the museums that you most want to visit will be included in the list as state museums, monuments, galleries, and archaeological sites are covered. So, for those booking a villa in Tuscany, this might be a good time to tick some cultural sites off of your bucket list… for free!

Do I need to book tickets for Domenica al Museo?
It is always recommended but it is required for some venues, particularly the busier cultural sites. Be sure to check the museum or institution’s own website before your visit to find out if you need to book a ticket in advance to gain entry on the day – but we do strongly suggest booking ahead of time anyway!
Is Domenica al Museo busy?
For the August 2025 edition of Domenica al Museo, they recorded over 250,000 visitors across all participating institutions on the day! One can imagine that many were concentrated in the larger and more famous institutions such as the Uffizi and the Accademia. So, you can expect them to be rather busy indeed. If you’d prefer more time, space, and quiet, it might be better to visit at another time if you have booked a vacation rental in Florence.
Those who have found a holiday rental in Tuscany who are interested in some of the less well-known examples, however, might find that this is a great time to see a wonderful museum for free and still avoid overly massive crowds. No matter what, though, you should expect a certain amount of hustle, bustle, and excitement.
When is the next Domenica al Museo?
The next edition of Domenica al Museo will take place on the 7th of September 2025 and the edition after that is the 5th of October 2025.
