We have just returned from a week in the Calanchi Apartments (Begonia apartment 4) - there were three of us but 5 could easily stayed here and 7 at a push, utilising the sofa bed.
These apartments are perfectly situated in Sughera, a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, ideal to experience the true beauty of the Tuscan countryside and get away from it all, but an hour from all the "main" tourist attractions, Pisa (airport), Florence, Siena and San Gimignano, and just over an hour for Lucca, Livorno, Chianti and Montalcino.
You WILL need a car - the nearest supermarkets are a 15 minute drive away and you really wouldn't want to walk there. The same applies for restaurants, so we ate out during the day and cooked in the apartment at night - there is a shared barbecue area near the pool too. The facilities are rustic, basic but sufficient and all you need for a lovely relaxing holiday. The manager Luca is very helpful, engaging and speaks impeccable English.
We passed literally hundreds of MAMILs (middle aged men in lycra) on cycling holidays so if you are into that sort of thing this is perfect - personally I was there for the early Tuscan Spring sunshine, wine, food and sights, and we got that in abundance.
We had a great, relaxing time and would certainly revisit or recommend staying here
