There are six magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tuscany that are well worth a visit on your next holiday here. These are places that are deemed to be of great cultural and historic importance. Some of Tuscany’s biggest cities; Florence, Pisa and Siena has been awarded with this great honour, as have the towns of Pienza and San Gimignano.
The selection of twelve Medici villas and Val d’Orcia has been awarded the UNESCO status in recent years. Tourists wishing to visit some or all of these wonderful sites could stay in a pretty luxury rental in Siena province, of which four of them are located.
The town of Pienza was built by order of Pope Pius II in 1558 to be a beautiful getaway venue from the Vatican for him and his court to holiday in. This quaint little Renaissance village is surrounded the scenic Val d’Orcia, which has also been granted the honour of being a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. This beautifully designed town fits snugly into the magnificent natural scenery and is close to the Orange Flag town of Radicofani.
