Tucked up in the rolling hills of the Maremma is the pretty Orange Flag town of Pitigliano which is Etruscan in origin.

The Etruscans were very skilled at choosing stunning locations for their settlements, mostly preferring to build on the hilltops of volcanic rock called tufu.They differed greatly from the Romans who preferred to build on flattish ground and construct large walls and fortresses to keep any unwanted visitors out!

If you’re going on holidays to southern Tuscany this year then why not take a day to explore the hilltop town of Civitella Paganico? This Tuscan gem is perched above a sea of dense forest filled with many plant and animal species which makes it the perfect spot for nature lovers to visit.

Stop off for a day and/or night in the stunning town of Pergine Valdarno in Arezzo province and experience some lovely tourist attractions. Wine lovers would most certainly love a visit to Pergine Valdarno as it is listed on the popular ‘Wine Road Terre di Arezzo’ itinerary.

Pergine Valdarno is a hilltop town that comprises of little villages and hamlets that clustered together over the centuries. Close to other tourist towns like Laterina, Montevarchi, Civitella and Terranuova Bracciolini, Pergine Valdarno is a small yet beautiful place to walk around. It’s located 50 kilometres south-east of Florence and 15 kilometres west of Arezzo town.
