San Casciano dei Bagni is a town in the Tuscan countryside located in the province of Siena. It is over one hundred kilometres from Florence, and is best known for its hot springs. The municipality dates back to between the 3rd and 4th centuries and is located in the southernmost part of Sienna. The Romans developed the hot springs after they were originally discovered by the Etruscans. The springs were used by Tuscan aristocrats during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance era. Today, the town is the location of a health spa center near many holiday villas, where people have been coming since the 14th century to take advantage of the therapeutic waters.
