Villa Spotlight: A Magical Escape In The Tuscan Countryside At Macennere

Macennere

For one of the most charming gardens that we have ever seen in Tuscany and a perfectly dreamy escape in the lush surroundings of the famously lovely landscape of the region, Macennere is a truly magical gem. A pretty stone villa with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, sleeping up to ten guests in total, Macennere is nestled down a private country lane, among forested hills, 12km from Lucca. Ringed by olive trees and cypresses and other greenery, the house boasts a gorgeous garden full of blooms, a private pool, elegant areas to relax al fresco, and comfortable interiors full of character and style.

Guests at Macennere can enjoy both the relaxing interior spaces and the magical grounds of the property. Meals can be taken on the covered patio to the side of the house while listening to the birds sing in the trees. Coffee or wine can be sipped while you chat and breathe in the scent of the lush lavender meadow and veggies can be eaten directly from the vegetable garden located to the rear of the house.

Lazy days can be spent splashing around in the pool, lounging in the covered area to the side of the pool, or sunning oneself to the other side of the pool – all framed by the beautiful purple hydrangeas and alliums planted all around the area. There is also an outdoor shower in this area for the convenience of guests.

When you want to go out, meanwhile, you’ll find that despite the peaceful and private countryside location, Macennere is well-located for getting out and exploring Tuscany. As noted, the lovely medieval walled town of Lucca is just 12km (or 8 miles away), making it easy to stock up on groceries and pop in for meals, to browse the shops, to explore the tourist attractions, and more. Pisa and her famous Leaning Tower, is just 31km (19 miles) away, making it easy to tick that off your bucket list. Florence is 84km (52 miles) away, a little further but still a reasonable day-trip distance away for diving into the city’s endless famous attractions. Plus, the Tuscan Coast and towns such as Viareggio and Forte Dei Marmi are only around thirty to forty minutes away for days at the beach.

Inside the house, meanwhile, you will find a stunning space that is full of life, colour, and style but remains comfortable and welcoming. Eclectic, full of art and patterns and gorgeous furniture, and with traditional touches like the exposed beam ceilings and brick and stone work, it is typically and charmingly Tuscan but with a particular artistic flair. On the ground floor, there is a pretty and bright country kitchen equipped with a dining table for four, a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, stove top and oven, toaster, and coffee machine. Then there are two different living rooms and a separate dining room seating up to eight guests. The first of the bedrooms, a double en suite room is also on this floor. Many of the rooms on the ground floor open out onto the veranda and those lovely lush gardens. On the first floor, meanwhile, there are two more double en suite bedrooms and two bedrooms each with twin beds, an additional bathroom, and a studio space with a desk.

Nine hours of maid services are offered for free by the owners, though additional hours can be arranged at an additional fee if you would prefer to not have to lift a finger at all throughout your vacation. For date nights out on the town, babysitting services can also be offered upon request and at a fee by the owners. In the annex there is a service room with a washing machine, dryer, and iron for your convenience throughout your stay. Parking for three cars is available on the grounds but it is worth keeping in mind that the 1.5km-long country lane that leads to the house might be challenging for nervous drivers and is not recommended for cars with low suspensions – something that is not uncommon for villas in the Tuscany countryside.

Macennere, alliums

Although, what we have to say about the property cannot compare to the words and rave reviews of some of our previous guests who have enjoyed stays at this gem! Nathan L said of his stay that it was, “One of the best properties we have ever been (and we rent one every year),“ and that, “The setting, the character, the caretaker... everything is special in Macennere!” Vivienne V had this to say of her stay at the villa: “BEAUTIFUL! After recovering from road to the house we opened up all the shutters and there it was... this beautifully decorated house with all the little corners and stairs and views. And the swimming area, wow! We had a perfect lovely week here with our friends and family. The kitchen is amazing and the housekeeper Marinella... she is GOLD! She made us dinner 2 evenings and were blown away by her food and personality. We loved everything and hopefully will come back!” Stefan R said that it is, “The perfect place to recharge. Very remote, very relaxing.”

Available to rent from €481 per night, Macennere currently has an open calendar for much of summer 2026, giving you plenty of choice for when to book your stay… but don’t wait too long as it is sure to book up soon!
