Dreaming of a perfect vacation in Tuscany – experiencing the food, the wine, the beyond famous galleries and works of art, the culture, the architectural wonders and world-famous attractions, the grand churches, the incredible people-watching and style inspiration, the pretty towns and great cities, the stunning landscapes – but unsure about where to base yourself? Well, fear not as we have an array of amazing vacation rentals in Tuscany that are all over the region and suit all kinds of tastes, needs, and budgets. So, in order to find the right one for you, just answer the following questions...

What Attraction Do You Want To See Most/Activity Do You Most Want To Do?
This may seem obvious but, if there is one attraction or activity that most appeals to you and has made you dream of a holiday in Tuscany in the first place, then you probably want to find a villa in Tuscany that is relatively close by.
For example, if you really want to explore the incredible museums and churches and grand feats of architecture of Florence then a holiday rental in Florence is probably the best way to go. However, if you can cover all you want to see in the city over the course of a day-trip or two, then you might base yourself in a nearby area where you can reach Florence easily but don’t necessarily have to be in the city itself. Similarly, if you want to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa then a villa in Pisa might suit but you could also just as easily pick from lots of destinations that are within a day-trip distance of the city.
In fact, Tuscany is not an insanely big region, particularly compared to regions or states in other parts of the world. So, you could probably pick a villa in almost any part of the region and still be able to plan special day-trips to specific attractions during your stay. This does depend on how far you are willing to travel in a day, however. Therefore, it still is probably best to pick an option not too far from the things you are most excited to see and do.

Are You Going To Rent A Car?
On the topic of day-trips and travelling across the region, it is certainly possible to use public transport while in Tuscany but it can have its limitations. If you book a vacation rental in Tuscany that is way out in a rural area, the nearest bus stop and/or train station might be many kilometres away and if you want to get to some specific attractions then you might need to use a combination of modes of transport and make various transfers. This can be very complicated and add unwanted stress to your holiday. If, however, you are based in a city and are only planning day-trips to other larger towns or cities or you are happy enough to lounge in a villa in the countryside and just explore nearby areas then you could get away with not renting a car. Realistically, though, Tuscany is best enjoyed if you are renting a car, otherwise we recommend that you stay in a city for your trip – we have villas in Florence, holiday rentals in Pisa, and vacation rentals in Siena.

Do You Prefer The City Or The Countryside?
Of course, staying in a city might best suit you anyway. In fact, a big deciding question when planning a vacation in Tuscany is whether one should choose a city break or a rural escape. City breaks offer convenience and cosmopolitan delights while rural escapes right out in the countryside or in small towns will give guests a chance to take in and enjoy the famously beautiful scenery of the region and to slow down, relax, and sample some excellent local delights.
Basically, the kind of holiday that you would like will probably decide you destination in Tuscany. Do you want to see and do it all in the city? Or do you want to unwind and relax in the countryside? Or, also in more rural areas, do you want to be able to pick and choose between a bit of both kinds of vacations?
In addition to our city destinations, we have a selection of rentals in famous Tuscan towns such as villas in Lucca, holiday rentals in San Gimignano, and vacation rentals in Pienza as well as amazing properties in beloved countryside areas such as our villas in Chianti (celebrated for its wine) and vacation rentals in the Orcia Valley (renowned for its natural beauty).

For How Long Are You Going?
The length of your trip might also determine your destination. If you have a week or more to explore the region thoroughly, then you could be based almost anywhere in Tuscany or you could even pick more than one rental in more than one area and see and experience Tuscany more fully, particularly for trips of more than a week or two. However, if you are only going to be in Tuscany for a weekend or a few days, then a city break is really the only way to go!

Do You Like To Be By The Sea?
Of course, we have now discussed the reasons to choose the countryside or cities or towns of Tuscany for a vacation but our villas on the Tuscan Coast are also a wonderful option. Particularly for summer holidays – especially during the hottest days of August when cities inland can be stifling – a seaside escape with all of the additional charms and traits of a Tuscan getaway sounds like a dream combo. There are also both large and small towns and countryside areas to choose among in this part of the region – again, allowing you to make perfect combinations. Many of the most famous attractions are quite far inland so those who do choose a holiday rental on the Tuscan Coast should be prepared for longer day-trips in order to see them but if that’s not an issue then it’s an ideal option!
