Experience Venice On Vacation In Tuscany At Venetian Effect In Livorno

Canals in Livorno

Livorno is home to another Venice, the Venezia Nuova, or New Venice of Tuscany. A stunning coastal town in Tuscany, this gem of a place features a series less-famous but undeniably lovely canals of its own.

Throughout the year, there is plenty to recommend the town for a vacation in one of our Tuscany Villas but there are a few annual events that make time staying a villa in Livorno and exploring the city all the more appealing. One of the most exciting of these events takes place each August and sees the canals made yet more lovely with music, performances, street art, light shows, markets, and more. The Effetto Venezia, or Venetian Effect, is an event with an almost 40 year tradition and is a thrilling and colourful festival that makes Livorno into one giant work of art and party.

In its 38th edition this year, the 2023 Venetian Effect festival will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of August. Synonymous with summer in the city, it will see the Venezia Nuova neighbourhood of Livorno, with her historic bridges and Medici-funded canals, play host to a diverse and fun programme of different events throughout the duration of the festival. Plus, each year more and more types of events and offerings have been added to the line-up, further enriching the experience. Today, there are musical and theatrical events, foodie tastings and celebrations of culinary treats and wines, various art exhibitions, workshops for children, and much more besides.

This year’s edition is dedicated to cinema and will see various guests from both around the country and all around the world host all sorts of exciting events. The festival will be divided into six different areas, each named after famous films: "Lightning Over Water" by Wim Wenders will be the theme for the video projections on the buildings of the area; "La Strada" by Federico Fellini will be the theme for the street artists; "Day for Night" by François Truffaut for live performances; "Zero for Conduct" by Jean Vigo for training with workshops and masterclasses; "Ovosodo" by Paolo Virzì for the schools; and "Il Sorpasso" by Dino Risi for collaboration with the territory.
