What Is The Weather Like In Fall & Spring On The Tuscan Coast?

Many people prefer to avoid travelling during the height of the summer season. There are plenty of reasons for this: those who cannot deal with higher temperatures and are looking for cooler weather will want to avoid the hottest months of the year; those who dislike crowds or lining up for things will be glad to miss the highest concentration of tourists; and those who love bargains will be happy to often find lower prices for villa rentals and flights. However, even if you are travelling out of season in order to reap these benefits, you don't have to compromise on the quality of your getaway. There are plenty of destinations that are still wonderful during the spring and autumn and make for perfect holiday locations if you want to plan an off-season vacation. Take, for example, a villa on the Tuscan Coast, which makes for an excellent spot to enjoy a holiday even as we head into autumn or as a brilliant vacation destination for early next year as a post-winter treat. Importantly, though, you may be wondering about the kind of weather that you might expect if you are considering an off-season getaway on the Tuscan Coast. To help you out and give you the information necessary to plan the right holiday for you, we have put together a handy little guide to the typical weather that you can likely expect during a vacation in the area during the months of September, October, April, and May.

July and August sees temperatures soar in Italy as locals escape in their droves from sweltering towns and cities to the seaside and other vacation spots to cool off and relax. However, as they all head home and we move further into September, temperatures begin to lower again...but not too much! In fact, in September, you can expect average temperatures of 15 to 27°C (59 to 81°F), bright and sunny days, with a little bit of rain here and there, sea temperatures of 22 to 25°C (72 to 77°F), and cooler evenings. So, you should have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the seaside during the day and you'll just need to bring some layers to wrap up in the evening.

October is a little less reliable but you can still expect plenty of sunny days along with the more cloudy, rainy ones, temperatures of 11 to 22°C (52 to 72°F), and sea temperatures remaining around a lovely 21°C (70°F) until the middle of the month. Plus, as the colours of autumn take over and the landscape becomes even more impossibly beautiful, this time of the year along the Tuscan Coast is a wonderful combination of potential days on the beach and cosy fall walks and delicious harvest delights – sounds perfect!

Once the new year has well and truly dawned, January and February are true winter and March remains unpredictable and cool but with April, the landscape blooms and temperatures start inching back up to between 8 and 19°C (46 to 66°F). Sea temperatures at this time of year will remain too low for many and the first half of the month can be very wintery - you'll need to be prepared for all sorts of weather - but as you get to the latter end of April you will encounter more and more sunny days. If you want to enjoy the pleasures of being by the sea in relative solitude and aren't too much of a sun-worshipper, then this might suit nicely!

By May, the tourism season is well and truly beginning to return but foreign tourist crowds have yet to properly descend. On the return, too, is the summer weather. A little more consistent, you can expect fewer bouts of rain, more sun, temperatures of between 12 and 23°C (54 to 73°F), and slightly warmer waters. Again, if you're looking for pleasant weather to enjoy the wonderful beaches of Tuscany without larger crowds then this is ideal but bear in mind that it can still be quite chilly in the evenings and the daytime weather, too, is not yet completely reliable. Still, this is a truly beautiful time to holiday on the Tuscan Coast.
