Not far from Montepulciano, in the rolling, lush landscape of this famous and beautiful wine area in Tuscany, you will find a truly incredible garden. The Parco Villa Trecci is something really special, one of those places that is absolutely breathtakingly lovely. Surrounding the Villa Trecci, a country villa located along the Via di San Bartolomeo, a stone’s throw from Monticchiello, the gardens of the park cover a total area of three hectares and are divided up into different sections such as the rose garden, olive grove, and more. Designed by the landscape architect Adelmo Barlesi and begun in 2014, the Parco Villa Trecci is a feast for the senses, a modern vision of bucolic bliss, and perfect contemporary villa garden. If you have found a vacation rental in Montepulciano and are exploring the area, it is a must-see.
The park, as noted, is made up of different areas and sections including the grey plants garden, the grove, the rose garden, the large graminaceous flowerbed (or flowerbed of grasses), the lake with the aquatic plants and the swamp, the lemon trees glasshouse, and the garden library. It is home to 400 species of plants, almost two dozen varieties and hybrids of roses, lots of different kinds of trees, herbs, fountains, statues, and more. As a result, it is a colourful, beautiful space that shifts, changes, surprises, and delights as you wander around. The herbs, flowers, and citrus plants all give off incredible aromas, insects and birds living in the gardens chirp and buzz, the blooms and grasses in different hues are ruffled by the breeze; it is a living, breathing, multi-sensory experience.

You might hear another noise as you explore the park, a gurgling from the irrigation system that is used throughout to gather rain water to keep all the plants alive and keep the water levels constant, even during the hottest months of the summer. This, plus the choice of planting species of blooms, grasses, shrubs, and trees that require less water, means that the park remains consistently vibrant and full of colour no matter what.
While you will find roses throughout the park, brightening everything around with their soft, beautiful colours and lovely fragrances, the Rose Garden offers a whole rose experience and is the highlight of the whole park. An enclosed space, the garden was created to collect some incredible Tuscan roses from the Barni collection of hybrids and varieties and is composed of symmetrical flowerbeds, a fountain, and a brick wall exterior with three access gates. The Rose Garden also boasts an amazing panoramic view over Montepulciano.
Other highlights of the park include the lake and its ecosystem of plants, fish, insects, frogs, and toads; the colourful grasses that grow by the shore and are planted in an incredible sweep of different shades through the centre of the garden; the traditional brick style old Tuscan lemon house inside which citrus trees are moved during the colder months and displayed in front of during the summer; the Encounter, a bronze sculpture by the artist Piero Sbarluzzi; the amazing 100-year-old olive trees of the olive grove; and the swimming pool surrounded by the beautifully-scented grey leaf plants in the Garden of Grey Plants. The Lemon House is also where the concerts and theatrical performances that are sometimes held in the gardens when hosted by the park take place. These events in this stunning setting are indescribably magical.
