The seaside town of Viareggio is the coastal gem of Tuscany and an excellent holiday destination for many different reasons from her rich traditions to her beautiful beaches. If you have chosen a luxury villa in Viareggio you will find plenty of things to see and do in the city itself and that day-trips to other Tuscan towns and cities can be readily organised as well. However, if you are looking to get out and explore Viareggio, in particular, and aren’t quite sure where to get started, then we might suggest heading to the Parco Pineta di Ponente, or Pineta di Ponente Park (Western Pine Forest).
A huge park that is famous for the lovely pine trees that line the main thoroughfare through the grounds, it is a wonderful place to go and spend some time in the great outdoors and to take in the natural beauty of Viareggio. It is also home to several different kiosks and businesses that rent out bicycles, allowing you to get out and explore more of the park and city at your leisure, while getting a bit of exercise in! This is the best way to see this charming part of the city, flitting along the shaded paths through the bright forest, maybe doing a bit of dog-spotting, and working up a bit of a sweat that should 100% be rewarded with some fresh gelato!
While in the Pineta di Ponente Park, you can also bring the kids to try out the little carnival rides and the playground, pack a picnic and have it on the lawns, buy some snacks from one of the restaurants or eateries in or around the park, or grab a coffee as you wander. In spring, you will find lots of greenery and flowers, in summer it will offer the respite from the hot sun that you will most likely need, and, in autumn, the whole place will be a magic tapestry of different shades of red and gold: definite must-see for anyone spending time in this part of Tuscany!
