The curator, Giuliano Matteucci, has said that the show aims to present an authentic representation of womanhood and does not display images of famous figures or icons like Coco Chanel or Frida Kahlo but, instead, chooses to focus on ordinary women from all walks of life. Matteucci says that the exhibition asks us to question the types of women that society looks to for inspiration when there is such a bountiful range of incredible female figures to look up to all around us. It also explores different periods and styles in art throughout the two centuries represented by the exhibition from Impressionism to the Macchiaioli school and beyond.
