Florence
If you or someone in your group has special requirements for travelling such as mobility issues or certain disabilities such as blindness, then Florence is one of the better destinations that you could choose for your vacation. The city has taken lots of different measures and put many different initiatives in place in order to serve as many visitors to the city as possible and ensure that you feel welcome and cared for no matter your needs. As their official website states, “The city...provides facilities and services for tourists with specific requirements, ranging from mobility aids, such as free wheelchair rental, to small and quiet electric vehicles, and large-scale tourist services.” So, if you want to make sure that everyone in your group can enjoy a pleasant trip, why not find a vacation rental in Florence? Here are some of the measures and initiatives that you can expect to find and make use of should you require them....
1. Free Access To The ZTL (Historic Quarter)

The ZTL, or Limited Traffic Area, is a section of historic quarters in several Tuscan and Italian cities wherein traffic is limited to residents. These sign-posted areas are carefully monitored and tourists who drive into them without a permit can expect to find a nasty surprise when they get home: a fine that has followed you after your vacation, which is not the best or most pleasant way to end things. However, if you give prior notice to the SAS company’s office in charge, tourists with mobility issues can have free access to the ZTL using the international card for people with disabilities. Simply contact them ahead of your trip using the toll-free number 800 339891 or via e-mail at upd@serviziallastrada.it. The multilingual call centre is multilingual and open from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 1pm and then 2pm to 4.30pm.

2. Parking

There are two options for parking in Florence: on-street parking spaces or multi-storey car parks. On-street parking spaces for disabled people can be found throughout the city though be sure not confuse these with spaces owned by specific people and marked by the disabled holder’s car registration number. However, cars with the “disabled” parking card can also stop in all available spaces including those with white or blue lines, free of charge and beyond the regular time limits within the municipal territory. In addition there are the multi-storey car parks, or “Parcheggi”, which have a certain number of parking spaces for disabled persons that are made available at no charge. For more information about all of the additional services offered by these car parks, please follow this link.
