Celebrate The 500th Anniversary Of Da Vinci's Death In Florence

Francesco Melzi, Portrait of Leonardo
Leonardo da Vinci is, without a doubt, one of the most famous names in the history of art. Throughout the centuries, while other artists have had fluctuating levels of fame and popularity, Da Vinci has remained one of the most globally recognised, fascinating, and elusive figures. His artistic skill, multiple talents in several fields, visionary ideas, intriguing glimpses of his personal life, his long string of unfinished works, and his unique career path are all captivating traits that have ensured the continued interest in the artist and this year that interest is set to only increase as we celebrate the 500th anniversary of his death on the 2nd of May 1519.
Events will be taking place worldwide to commemorate the Renaissance master – from Tokyo to Northern Ireland – but as he was a Tuscan born and bred, there will, of course be events in the region in which he was from. So, if you have found a luxury villa in Florence and you are planning on visiting the city in the next few months, be sure to set aside time to remember this great artist and visit one of these special exhibitions in the city.

“Verrocchio, Il Maestro di Leonardo”
Palazzo Strozzi
8th of March to the 14th of June 2019

For those really interested in the life and career of Da Vinci, one cannot miss out on this exhibition, which explores the artist Verrocchio. Verrocchio was Leonardo's master and teacher and this exhibition explores his works alongside those of contemporaries and students such as Pietro Perugino and Domenico Ghirlandaio and Da Vinci himself.

“Leonardo a Firenze”
Palazzo Vecchio
25th of March to the 24th of June

This exhibition showcases sheets from the “Codex Atlanticus”, one of the many collections of drawings and studies by Leonardo that were completed during his time in Florence. On loan from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, it is an opportunity to see his thoughts and works inspired by his time in the birthplace of the Renaissance.

Meanwhile, you can also find some of Da Vinci's works on permanent display in the Uffizi and there is also the Da Vinci Museum in which models of his inventions are on display. So, if you're looking to explore the extraordinary life and career of this incredible artist, the artistic capital of Tuscany is the ideal spot.
