You know that image from dream sequences and alternate universe confusion that crops up all the time in pop culture? The image of staircases descending, ascending and criss-crossing from all angles? That's Escher and it gives you a sense of what you might expect from the exhibition.
Escher’s images are based on symmetry and explore “infinite, mathematical paradoxes and impossible perspectives”. Arranged alongside some fittingly intriguing exhibition schemes designed by architect Cesare Mari and paired with interesting technology and multimedia stations, the effect of the whole exhibition is enticing and hypnotic.
Broken up into nine sections – Faces, Animals, Objects and Reflections, Geometries and Rhythms, Landscapes, The Artist, Imaginary Architecture, Nature and Self-Portraits – and showcasing over 100 works by Escher, visitors this is a dazzling exhibition experience that is an absolute must for anyone visiting the city in the next few months!
