If you are interested in trying something a little different on your holiday in Tuscany, or something a little off the beaten tourist path, or you happen to be an avid climber planning on spending time in Tuscany, it is a perfect match. We have already mentioned some of the best places to go climbing in the region but there are many more so take note of these destinations, pick the one that suits your plans and abilities and get out to see a different side of Tuscany!

3. Capo d'Uomo, Argentario Island

Capo d'Uomo on Argentario Island is an incredibe crag that is set in very picturesque surroundings, with the sparkling seas of the Mediterranean below and the ruins of an ancient watchtower above, overlooking it all.

It is a white and grey limestone vertical slab with crimps and shallow pockets, resulting in technical stamina climbing. First outfitted for climbing in the mid 90s, it has been recently re-equipped with stainless steel bolts thanks to the financial support of the Grosseto branch of the Italian Alpine Club and new routes have been added by Valtellina Mountain Guide Eraldo Meraldi. Opened to the public again, it is a spot that any proficient climbers will enjoy.

4. Via Ferrata

Via Ferrata is a stretch of the Apuan Alps, the long range of mountains that extend over a distance of 40km, in parallel with the coast, between La Spezia and Lucca. This is a great area for hiking and climbing in general, with hikes and climbs that will suit people of all levels of ability. The route of Monte Contrario is the longest and is physically demanding.
Florence
Completed in 2002, it is well-equipped and can be divided into a few days of hiking and climbing, depending on your own preferences. Once again, this is for more serious climbers and not new-comers.

5. Gaz, Florence

If you have found a luxury villa near Florence and can't quite make it to the countryside, never fear, climbing is still possible. Gaz, in Florence is an indoor bouldering gym, the was opened in 2004 and has walls of about 5m in height and flat walls, a roof wall, and 30, 45 and 60 degree walls. This is the place for those looking to climb but with little experience.
