Tuscany's Top Spas IV

Montecatini Terme's indoor spa
For our final post on the top spas in Tuscany, we have chosen two more of the most particularly beautiful spa towns in the region.

It was a difficult thing to narrow down as a little known fact about Tuscany is that it is home to a multitude of freely accessible natural hot springs, which prompted the establishment of world-renowned and world-class spa destinations.

These towns combine all the typical charms of Tuscany – the historic and scenic settings, the culture, the slower pace of life and the delicious food and wine – with the perfect relaxation offered only by spa destinations. If you are in need of an opportunity to truly kick back and unwind, there really is nowhere better as a holiday destination.
Bathers at Bagni San Filippo
One of these Tuscan towns with traditional and popular outdoor baths fed by natural hot springs is Bagni San Filippo in the Orcia Valley, near San Quirico d'Orcia and Pienza. If you venture into the wilds of the forest, you can find and enjoy the hot springs for yourself. The resort of Terme San Filippo offers access to a restaurant, swimming pool, hotel, spa and wellness centre – all in one location. The spa and beauty treatments offered there all make use of all-natural sulphurous water, its sediments and mud from the springs and thermal treatments available at the resort include baths, mud baths and various kinds of aerosol inhalation. The swimming pool features a waterfall and waters which are rich in sulphur, calcium and magnesium and are heated to 40 degrees. The Fosso Bianco, however, is the real deal. This is an area in the woods above the village where there are several hot springs in a series of pools. The limestone formations that have formed are also quite the sight and it is a perfectly scenic place to enjoy the town's famous springs. Best of all, unlike the resort, you can visit Fosso Bianco for free! Just find a luxury villa in the Orcia Valley and try it out for yourself!
View of Montecatini Terme
Montecatini Terme is another wonderful spa town, located in the Valdinievole of Pistoia and which has drawn people to the area since ancient times because of its natural thermal springs. Like Bagni San Filippo, there are both enclosed resorts and free outdoor springs that can be enjoyed. The Terme Canopy is the most luxurious spa in Montecatini Terme and was constructed in the 14th century under architect, Gaspero Maria Paoletti, who was inspired by luxurious ancient Roman baths. Find a luxury villa in Montecatini Terme and discover why different kingdoms fought for centuries over this stunning town.

These are just two more of the most beautiful spa towns in Tuscany. There are many more so be sure to check out our other articles and begin to explore this popular and important part of Tuscan tourism. It's one more reason to fall in love with the region.
