EDIT: Sadly, as of the 1st of August, 2016, the park has been closed down due to family reasons of the owners.
Almost everyone has had a phase of being obsessed with dinosaurs, usually as a kid. Or, perhaps, while a little older after seeing Jurassic Park. Maybe it became a life-long interest or, even, a career. You might even have children of your own that are having a dinosaur phase right now. In the wake of the release of Jurassic World, it seems like there is no better time to visit the Peccioli Prehistoric Park in Peccioli, Tuscany. Offering a great day out for families, kids and kids at heart, the park is comprised of lush, beautiful grounds which are occupied by large reconstructions of dinosaurs which seem to roam about as if these majestic creatures had never gone extinct at all. If this sounds right up your alley, just find a holiday rental in Peccioli and spend a day exploring the park and discovering the dinosaurs that live there!

The park is located just outside Peccioli and was established by the Ghironi family. Erardo Ghironi was a retired circus performer and needed somewhere to settle and something else to do as life on the road had become too difficult. The family found lots of fossils on their new property and, thus, became interested in prehistory. They began studying prehistory, natural sciences and the techniques needed to reproduce prehistoric animals in fibreglass-reinforced plastic. Then, in 1977, they had the idea to open the park - thirteen years before Jurassic Park, the book, and sixteen years before the movie, catapulted dinosaurs into public interest.

The educational park includes around twenty life-size reproductions scattered over two hectares as well as a volcano that erupts coloured balls. They also have a mammoth, Tyrannosaurus Rex and the largest European reproduction of a Brachiosaurus, measuring twelve metres in height. You can explore the grounds, take a guided tour and even enjoy a picnic together on the grounds and spend a great day learning while having lots and lots of fun!
If you're looking for an activity for the kids where they are kept fully engaged and learning while enjoying themselves, or if you just love dinosaurs, make sure to seek out this very special park in Tuscany!
