The aquarium of Livorno offers a great day out for all the family and everyone in the group can enjoy the opportunity to ooh and aah over the beauty, oddities, dramatics and humour of nature and see creatures that aren't readily visible out in the wild. Located perfectly and centrally at the seafront promenade, just where the famous Mascagni Terrace begins and with long opening hours, is an easy attraction to pop out to once you have found a vacation rental in Livorno. Originally opened in 1937 by Enrico Salvais and Luigi Pastore but recently restored and reopened to the public, it is home to over 2,000 creatures and 300 different species housed in recreations of the environments of the Mediterranean Sea, Indo-Pacific Sea, Caribbean Sea, Tyrrhenian coast, various tropical seas and a Greco-Roman archaeological Area, which contains a reproduction of a Roman shipwreck. You can expect to see different creatures such as turtles, Napoleonfish, blacktip reef sharks, jellyfish, clownfish, zebra sharks, starfish, seahorses, corals, camaleonte and morays.

Another interesting attraction that kids will enjoy is Pinocchio Park in the village of Collodi that is dedicated to the character of Pinocchio. The theme park was opened in 1956 and physically takes visitors through the story, following paths lined with mosaics, small buildings and statues of Pinocchio characters. The park also features a museum housing a collection of Pinocchio books in several languages and Pinocchio-themed paintings and artworks; statues of the characters from the story; some amusement park rides; a Fairy’s little house; a pirate ship and treasure cave; a giant fish-shaped fountain; a snack bar, picnic area and gift shop; a theatre near the entrance where puppet shows are performed in Italian daily 12 and 4 pm; and a crafts laboratory for children, where they can draw, paint and make their own Pinocchio hat and long nose. Find a luxury villa in Collodi and you can visit for yourself.
