Da Vinci And Vinci II - Remainders Of The Master In Vinci

Da Vinci's Town Plan of Imola, Leonardo Museum
If you still haven't had enough of Da Vinci after the last post why not find a luxury villa in Vinci and spend a couple days following his trail around Anchiano and Vinci?

Once you have visited his birthplace and the museum there, have been told the story of his life by a hologram and taken in the breath-taking Tuscan countryside which surrounds and inspired his work, you can follow one of the many itineraries that explore the surrounding territory.

One of the most beautiful and interesting of these itineraries is known as the Strada Verde, or Green Road.
Vinci
The Strada Verde connects Anchiano to Vinci via an old trail through the woods. This route will not only lead you into Vinci to learn yet more about Leonardo but it will also give you ample opportunity to take in the Tuscan landscape that so inspired him.

In the town of Vinci itself there are many opportunities to see places and things connected to the great artist's life. At the centre of the town, behind the Conti Guidi castle is a wooden model of Leonardo's famous drawing, the Vitruvian Man. This image was an imagining of a perfect man with ideal proportions according to Renaissance ideas. The terrace where it is located also offers a fantastic view of the area.
Leonardo Library, Vinci
The Leonardo Museum, also located in the town, is arranged in two buildings and illustrates the history of Leonardo's careers as both an architect and scientist. This highly engaging and interactive museum has rooms dedicated to his building-site machinery, textile manufacturing technology, mechanical clocks, war machinery, flying machines and more.

Serious fans can take this a step further by making three more stops. The first of these is at the Church of Santa Croce where he was baptised. From here you can make your way to the bronze monument sitting in Piazza della Libertà called Leonardo’s Horse.

The last stop on this itinerary is really for only the most dedicated of Leonardo fans. If, after all that, you still wish to learn more, you can head to the documentation centre, a research facility which specialises in his works at the Biblioteca Leonardiana where you can find much more information about the artist.

Your understanding of the man and the art will be all the richer after such a trip, shedding new light on everything by his hand that you set your eyes on thereafter. True Leonardo fans visiting Tuscany will not be able to miss out!
