It’s worthwhile to buy a detailed map of Italy if you plan to exit the highways at some point and weave deep into the winding country roads of Tuscany. The good news is that many countryside towns sell decent road maps of the local area to help tourists discover the surroundings artistic, cultural and historical attractions.

When driving on the main motorways, the maximum speed limit is 130 km/h. On smaller roads the speed limit ranges from 50 km/h to 110 km/h and sometimes less when driving through towns so be sure to pay close attention to signs along the side of the road.
