The famous Tuscan DOCG labelled wine, Chianti Classico is produced in a particular part of the Chianti region between Florence and Siena. One of the super Tuscan wines, Chianti Classico has been made here since Etruscan times and stands out from the rest because of its unique pink logo with a black rooster seal on all of its bottles.
Book a beautiful villa in Chianti with a swimming pool to experience a lavish holiday in comfort while you sip the area's magnificent wine.
The story behind this seal is derived from a comical legend that dates back to the 13th century in this area. Florence and Siena fought bitterly for the ideal grape growing land of Chianti and decided to end their disagreement in a strange way.

The story behind this seal is derived from a comical legend that dates back to the 13th century in this area. Florence and Siena fought bitterly for the ideal grape growing land of Chianti and decided to end their disagreement in a strange way.

Two knights were set to leave the two cities when the local rooster would crow and where they met in between would determine the boundary line and which province would claim ownership of the Chianti area.
The sneaky Florentines starved their unfortunate black rooster for several days before the contest so that when it came to the day, the poor bird crowed much earlier than the well fed Sienese rooster. The knight of Florence therefore got a great head start and met the bewildered knight of Siena only 20 kilometres outside of his city!

The starving black rooster became famous from that day and hence why it took pride of place on every Chianti Classico wine label. Recently streamlined, this striking pink DOCG label with the black rooster silhouette in the centre symbolises a wine which has become legendary itself for its deep colour and rich flavour.
