Visit The Top Ten Natural Attractions Of Tuscany Part Two!

Continuing on from the first part of our ‘Top ten natural attractions of Tuscany’ topic, here are the rest of the gems of the region that would make for some excellent day trips! Stay in a luxury villa in Tuscany to help make this a perfect cultural getaway.

6) Caves of Tuscany – There are so many to choose from, which you can see for yourself by reading our collection of articles on ‘Underground Tuscany’, detailing the numerous cave systems and mines below the earth here. For those wishing to stay mostly above ground, why not head to the famous marble caves of Carrara. This is where the Master sculptor, Michelangelo went to seek the marble needed for his masterpiece ‘David’. Or climb up to explore the fascinating Windy Cave of the Apuan Alps.

7) The Tuscan archipelago – These are seven beautiful islands off the coast of Tuscany that are well worth a visit. The largest of them is called Elba Island and has some charming towns and fabulous beaches to check out. Tourists have their choice of superb water sports to choose from such as a challenging sea kayaking trail between some of them or why not go scuba diving to see the mesmerising marine life here?

8) The Apennines – This is a vast mountain range that runs through a major part of Tuscany. The Apuan Alps are a popular section of this majestic mountain range and offers hundreds of hiking, cycling, canyoning and mountain climbing activities across them.

9) Massaciuccoli Lake – This is a popular tourist destination located in Lucca, close to the seaside town of Viareggio. The famous Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini lived here and now every year in his honour, a great music festival is hosted on the lake shores. While you’re here why not take off on a scenic tour on a road enveloping the lake by cycling or driving. Stop off in the town of Torre del Lago for a delicious lunch before embarking on your next tourist adventure trail!

10) Tuscany’s waterfalls – There are several of these beauties across Tuscany, one of them being near Camaiore town in Lucca. Cascading mountain rivers fill up basins as they travel downhill. Dip your toes into these crystal clear waters or wade in to some of the deeper pools to cool yourself down on a hot day.

Dive into a stunning waterfall and pool beside Casoli town or the Malbacco waterfalls in Seravezza. This town is also home to therapeutic thermal pools so come here for a wonderfully hydrating day trip!
