Come To Murlo In Tuscany!

murlo town
The cosy town of Murlo in Tuscany is conveniently situated less than twenty kilometres south of Siena and would make for an excellent day trip! Close to the tourist towns of Montalcino and Buonconvento, Murlo is a tiny Orange Flag town, tucked into a forested countryside.

Surrounded by lots of lovely rivers and streams, Murlo is a natural haven brimming with wildlife and colourful vegetation. Tourists would thoroughly love walking along peaceful trails here and capturing the views of the area on their cameras.

Stay in a peaceful villa in Lupompesi, only four kilometres away from Murlo where you can easily explore this beautiful part of Tuscany.

There are numerous Etruscan sites around the area of Murlo, and indeed, the town itself has strong Etruscan roots. There have been many ornate artefacts uncovered here throughout the centuries, many of which are now on display in the local archaeological museum. This quaint little museum was constructed partly from the remaining walls of the Castle of Murlo, a 12th century fortress whose history is well documented here also.

The well-kept town of Murlo has changed little in over 700 years; its neat appearance and friendly inhabitants have contributed greatly to its well-deserved Orange Flag award as has its directions to local attractions and amenities. Why not venture out to see the nearby Crete Senesi which are unusual clay formations above the earth that look like something out of a sci-fi movie!

Or visit one of the local vineyards for a tour around their property to learn about the fine art of wine-making. Taste the fruits of their labour (quite literally!) as well as other delicious food products of Murlo and the neighbouring towns and villages.

If you’re here in May you can witness the ‘Fiesta in Collina’ which translates as the ‘Feast on the Hills’. During these celebrations visitors can admire local artisan food and craft displays, folk shows, music and taste the finest local wines. It’s a glorious countryside event not to be missed. Murlo is a delightful place to visit so why not include it in your upcoming travelling plans of Tuscany?
