
Marsiliana village is part of the municipality of Manciano which lies in the heart of the Maremma area of Tuscany. Despite its small size, Marsiliana has been quite a popular tourist attraction because of its welcoming charm and interesting ancient monuments.
It was the site of a major archaeological discovery in 1908. An extensive collection of Etruscan tombs were unearthed and provided historical experts with a wealth of information about this once thriving civilisation and their burial customs.
Named the Necropolis of Banditella, visitors today can see some of them which are essentially graves surrounded by stone circles.

The most famous artefact discovered here was a beautiful gold fibula which is a type of gold brooch used to pin toga clothing together at the shoulder.
Spend a few joyful hours meandering around the village of Marsiliana. Walk around the beautiful church of Santa Maria and the quaint little chapel of St. Anthony which house some lovely artworks and sculpture.
Take some beautiful photographs of two castles here. One was called Marsili castle of which the surrounding land was cultivated and eventually converted into a fortified farmland!

The other fortress was called Stachilagi Castle that sits proudly on top of a hill overlooking the River Elsa. Built in the 13th century this magnificent structure was adjoined to the Abbey of La Selva which was already in existence.
While you’re in the area, a visit to the nearby towns of Capalbio, Manciano and Orbetello would be an excellent way to soak in some authentic Tuscan culture.
