Stunning buildings were built here during this time. The remains of many of them are also part of the nearby Natural Park of Migliarino San Rossore which is the largest wetland in Tuscany. Remains of what would have been a large luxury villa can still be seen here.
It even had its own ‘spa’ area of a sauna, cool water pool and much more which can be learned about on a guided visit here. There is also the remains of what were a station and another building which houses an almost perfectly preserved mosaic of animals.

There’s now a museum and exhibition space here in Massaciuccoli that beautifully displays artefacts uncovered here. Tourists will be treated to a great description of the history of this ancient hamlet and see vivid illustrations of what these buildings would have once looked like.
The museum is open all year around and guided tours can be bought for only €4. Children under six years of age can enter for free.
