It’s the most important festival in this city’s religious calendar with the main event being a procession through the streets where the crowd carry a wooden crucifix figure.
Held in honour of ‘Volto Santo’, the Holy Face, this solemn parade is made even more beautiful with each person carrying lit candles in the fading light of evening. A lovely concert is held afterwards in Lucca’s cathedral followed by a feast, music and fireworks along the river. This is truly a magical event not to be missed!

Taste the delicious flavours of two famous wine festivals in the wine producing region of Chianti in Tuscany. One is held during the second weekend of September and continues later on the following Thursday and Friday.
