For visitors who enjoy trekking through streams and climbing rocks or even know how to engage in the challenging sport called canyoning, this is the perfect place for your to visit on your next vacation to Tuscany!

This beautiful haven of nature is nearby to the pretty town of Bagni di Lucca where there are some ideal vacation rentals with swimming pool to relax and enjoy your stay in if you wish to explore this glorious mountainous area for a few days!

Orrido di Botri is a deep limestone gorge in Val Fegana, under the towering slopes of the Tre Potenze and Rondinaio Mountains. Its unusual shape and ragged crevices and fractures were caused by water flow over thousands of years. The water here is crystal clear and lined with colourful pebbles along the ground.

This water filled paradise is extremely narrow in places and is home to a wonderful range of rare animals. Bring your binoculars and camera and try to catch a glimpse of the royal eagle, wild wolves, porcupines, roe deer and many more! This has been a fiercely protected nature reserve since 1971 and is a pleasure to walk around and be awed by.

For those who want to learn more about how the gorge was formed and how to book a place on the frequent summer trails through it, visit the welcoming visitor centre and ticket office in the nearby village of Ponte a Gaio. The visitor centre tour is only €2 to walk around.

There's a fun four hour trek through the gorge which is €14 for adults or €7 for children under eleven. Helmets are provided and you are required to wear tough mountain boots, a warm waterproof jacket and a change of clothes for afterwards as you are guaranteed to get wet, walking through the shallow waters.

After this challenging trek, why not head to the natural hot springs of Bagni di Lucca where you can relax and warm up again! Or visit the famous Devil’s Bridge that was built here long ago!
