A while ago our booking team set off for a visit to the Podere Lo Spadino, a new Tuscan country house close to San Gimignano and one of the favorites of our guests!
A visit to this house is a visit to the Montagnani Family. Because we must tell you that this house was born from an idea, a difficult but a strongly desired wish that the owner Maris had since he was young: his idea to build a house entirely with his own strength and own hands.
According to several researches Maris made and in analyzing some manuscripts left by his ancestors, the Montagnani Family has lived some centuries on the territory where the province of Florence borders the province of Siena, close to San Gimignano. The characteristic symbols of this area are part of the family's coat of arms which can be found in the medieval Town Hall in Certaldo.

Life's circumstances meant Maris had to delay his studies as he worked professionally as a fireman. However, in his free time he attended a private technical school and also a public school in Siena and so he gained basic knowledge and skills whereby he finally received his diploma in surveying at a later age.
Collaborating with an important technical studio in Poggibonsi, he acquired the experience and technical knowledge to finally start the project on the so long-desired farmhouse.
The building materials with which Podere Lo Spadino is built were taken from an old country house previously demolished near Barberino Val d'Elsa. The beginning of the works dates back to 1992 on a piece of land surrounded by olive trees and vineyards producing Chianti and Vernaccia wine.
Collaborating with an important technical studio in Poggibonsi, he acquired the experience and technical knowledge to finally start the project on the so long-desired farmhouse.

The great passion and determination of this family saw us them working together to finish the construction of the farmhouse using a particular method of wall-building, common to the area of San Gimignano, called "a faccia vista", handed down for centuries in our territory. It is a type of wall built while reusing old materials. The result is the magnificent Podere Lo Spadino
