In several previous posts we have talked about villas in San Gimignano, as well as the Towers of San Gimignano. Today in our Villa Spotlight we are taking a look at a one of a kind place to stay: a vacation rental that IS one of the towers of San Gimignano! Torre di San Gimignano is a renovated tower located right in the main square of town, and luckily you have plenty of stairs to work off all that Italian food and wine.
While there are 14 of the medieval towers left standing in San Gimignano, Torre di San Gimignano is the only one of them that is habitable. This 48 meter (157ft) tall tower was built in the 13th century by a local family, the Salvucci's, and is now the tallest private tower in San Gimignano. The tower spans 10 floors as well as a gorgeous terrace with about 160 stairs in all.

"San Gimignano is a unique place. The town is inspiring and visually stunning, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and everything you need for a very special week. Torre di San Gimignano is a very special place to stay. Views to die for, breathtaking (both physically and visually - 180 stairs work off all the fantastic food and wine!) An unforgettable experience. While you're there eat lots of ice-cream (Gelateria di Piazza - best in world!); Drink the local wine!; Try all the restaurants (in particular Ristorante Dorando' - not cheap but 10/10); Buy a leather handbag or two (Le Torri); Music festival week while we were there and evening entertainment with violinists and puppetry was great. Highly recommend and we want to go back soon!"

While the house is not really suitable for children with its many stairs and balconies, it could be perfect for a young couple or group of friends who want a unique experience during their vacation. The rental sleeps up to 4 people in two bedrooms and it has one bathroom. The furnishings in the recently restored building are a blend of medieval charm with a contemporary eye for comfort. Also cars are not allowed in the city center of San Gimignano, it is sometimes possible to request permission to bring a car in to unload luggage.
If you are looking for day trips and things to do near San Gimignano , you don't have to look very far. The towns of Certaldo and Poggibonsi are about 10 km away, and a little further away is Siena at 35km and Florence at 45km. The city itself is well known for its Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a delicious full bodied white wine. Be sure to visit some of the vineyards that dot the rolling hills around the city!

Torre di San Gimignano can provide you with a wholly unique experience during your vacation to Tuscany. Lots of people visit Tuscany each year, piling on to the tour buses and buzzing through the City of Tower quickly, but how many people stay inside the city much less in one of the towers the city is so famous for! If you are interested in staying in the Torre di San Gimignano, be sure to visit the property page for more information. The photo gallery has plenty of other pictures of the rental as well. Our Villa Specialists are, as always, standing by to help you with any questions you may have about the rental.
