Shopping in Via de Tornabuoni
Right in the heart of Florence, just a couple of minutes walk from the Piazza della Repubblica lies the famous shopping district of Via de Tornabuoni. It is one of the most elegant Renaissance streets in all of Florence and is also one of the few wide enough to permit a glimpse of the sky as you wander down it. Shoppers in Tornabuoni can expect to find some of the most famous names from fashion, such as Gucci, Prada and Ferragamo.
Little known fact
The famous Negroni cocktail (Gin, Vermouth Rosso, Bitter Campari and a slice of orange) named after count Camillo Negroni, is attributed to Fosco Scarselli, owner of the Caffè Casoni on this road, but sadly no longer in business. In recent years local Florentine's have expressed disgust that some of the city centre's most historic names are being washed away and replaced by international brands. It's for this reason that when Roberto Cavalli took over the property, the old bar that had served for many Florentine's as a meeting point (punto di ritrovo) and was made famous for its exquisite hot chocolate, he agreed to keep the bar alive as part of his new shop.
